Playing with a really new band and we need to make business cards, launch website and all that stuff. The name as Motown Junkies and we do covers of Motown, Neo soul, plus some pop tunes thrown in. Anybody got any ideas? We are tossing some around, but I thought this creative bunch might have some other cool ideas!

My number one suggestion is to keep it VERY simple.
When I first joined the band I am in I told the guy that hired me , when he asked me about doing new business cards, that I thought their card was a bit too busy, and that club owners wouldn't want to have to look all over a card to see which part of it was the bands name and phone number among all the graphics.
Shortly after he had a friend of his who is some kind of advertising guy tell him the same thing.
When you make up a card or website always remember who you want to reach and try to view it as they will be seeing it. Design it from their perspective.
I suggest just some musical notes and a couple of colors. Make sure the bands name is the largest thing on the card and make sure the contact name and phone number are prominent and obvious at a glance. Put the email address and web site address in close proximity to the contact info.
Again, look at it like some club owner sitting at his desk with his glasses on looking at a bunch of cards he has on his desktop while he is busy doing business and not neccesarily in the mood to book a band, but knows he must do it today.
Imagine that everybody who sees your info is in a hurry to accomplish something. Not that they are looking at your info to be entertained by it.
I am not thinking you would be in violation of the record labels trademarks if you made the card the same color as the Tamla label, which I think was a light tan, with the brown letting that Tamla had, ( at least I think they had) and with a thin border around the card that is the dark purple of the Motown label.
    As an example.

    Any inspiration here?
I am not suggesting the use of a trademark, only 50s/60s diner/drive-in/automotive influence/impression.

    +1 Rockledge.
This is my job.....first sign of an amateur layout is a bunch of clipart splashed about trying to portray all the various aspects of the business.

Simple, readable. That's not to say it can't be creative, it can, but it typically takes a pro to do something memorable yet simple and classic.

A humorous thought hit me when I seen your post.
They could use those as logos and call the band "Recall" or "Bailout".

I was thinking more along the lines of what those images are likely to bring to someones mind now, as opposed to then.

I wouldn't put a logo on a business card, just your band's name in large, bold letters, followed by your contact information. At the bottom (or on the back, if you're rich) you can put URLs to your FB fan page, Reverb Nation, etc.

I would also recommend finding a VistaPrint spam (or go to their website) and signing up for the 250 free business cards deal. After shipping, it's less than $5 to your door.

Whatever you do, don't list all the band members on the card.

I like that card. I might not put that much info on it though.

I just had new biz cards done and had them based on my (soon to launch) website banner. Get a good designer who can do it all. One great gig would probably pay for all the design work.

For sure, you can have as little or as much info as you want...

I did one, and played with the formatting a bit...

Go to vista print, select the not free one, and search Music. The layout is in there...

    Still cheap as dirt.
