Already thinking about my next strat, even before this one comes in. I know that I want it to be something different than a standard black or fiesta red. I thought about British Racing Green and Chrome Blue. I also thought about a blueburst. I like the idea of a triburst, but in different colors. Ideas? Pics of your own?

I painted the top only on my mahogany Strat, left the back natural.

Looks great. Gives me an idea. Maybe paint the front and half of the sides one color, then the rest white or something. Hmm

What color is that by the way?

I'm way into British Racing Green or whatever color they used to do those 80's Clapton sigs. They called it 7up green. I always love looking at that guitar too. Maybe front and back solid and the sides natural or white.

Maybe something like that one picture, just BR Green on the front and white on the sides/back. Would go nicely with the white pickguard. Hmm. Only thing is I have an Olympic white/mint pickguard Legacy on the way and I don't want it to look too similar.

I also thought about a blueburst, except with a regular sunburst inside of that too. So black/dark dark blue, bright blueburst, orange-y sunburst. Might not have room?

steve vai called and said that his lawyers will be in contact :rotflmao

but all joking aside some good ideas so far. i bet leo didnt think his guitar would be customized in so many ways, he wanted it versatile from a playing point of view. i guess he didnt figure it would be one of the best if not the best to do custom paint on as well.

Not sure on maple or rosewood. Probably maple, with a deeper golden tint. But still satin, no gloss. Whatever it is, I'll be getting it custom built as much as I like DIY-stuff, I won't be painting it. I'm really thinking dark blue or dark green, but not just a monochrome scheme. Some other color along with one of those. That ice blue strat looks great, but mine will be Alder and not Mahogany. If I was better at photoshope I could see how a sunburst inside of a blueburst would look.

Metallic silver base. Blue candy burst. If you want a third color violet candy the edges outer ring.

You mentioned blueburst. G&L guitars has a beautiful blueburst finish.

This example is taken from their web site (www.glguitars.com, under "finishes").

I love sunburst guitars, especially strats. They seem common though. I don't know.

Add this one to the list - white pickguard, dark green body, but with a black strip outlining the pickguard down the front. A thin white stripe around the sides, with a very thin black stripe inside the middle of that.

That or just a dark green strat, with white pickguard and a thin white line around the sides
