Need stronger OD pedal . . . opinions?

I need a strong OD pedal, that can provide more sustain. I currently use a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 set to the vintage setting. I play a strat through Fender Princeton rev reissue. I mic my amp for most of the volume. On single not leads, the Fulldrive is not enough drive for single not leads. Any suggestions?

Barber Compact Direct Drive, Timmy or a Way Huge Green Rhino.

I'd use a Blackout Effectors Musket--it's a fuzz, but you can really smoothe it out with the pre knob, and then you've go this rich, thick flute-y tone. I use it to sound like Fripp with Bowie in a rig that's very similar to your--that may not be your cup of tea, but if gives you a sense of how much sustain you can get, and how tight and muscular it can be. -E

T1M Punch Drive or a Scarlett Love v1. Either one has more than enough sustain and girth for single note leads AND they sound amazing.

i really liked my Fulldrive, back in around 2007. Replaced it first with a Direct Drive, then picked up an Lovepedal Eternity. Seven years later: still using the Eternity. Much more sustain and fat output in comparison to the FDII, imo.

Agreed that a well sculpted fuzz will get you most of the way there.

The Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian has proven to be a perfect replacement for OD type tones. Tons of sustain without sounding messy or overly heavy. A lot of the bands we service have ditched their OD pedals for the W&C TFR. YMMV, of course!

Heres a clip I made using only the Lunar Module Mini Deluxe. First part is just the volume rolled back on the guitar. Volume is all the way up at 47 seconds. Its just a quick clip done with cheap recording crap but you will get the idea.

Heres another with the volume on the guitar up the whole time. Ignore the background stuff. Only the lead line is the LMMD. Also this clip gets a bit spacey towards the end........;)

Throw a Dover Drive in front of your favorite OD pedal. Done.

Yup, just throw another pedal before it if you already like your tone. It will add more sustain/compression and your Fulldrive should retain the majority of its character, if not all. I use the Jetter Gain Stage Gold, or the Lovepedal Kalamazoo Gold if you can't find the Jetter, after a dirt pedal because they provide a creamy fatness to leads, especially the one-note leads. You just keep the gain low, the treble to taste and dial in a slight volume boost.
