I can think of many I’m just looking for something new.

The lane I’m in requires the style of music I requested.

This is a secular song, but it would't take much to tweak the lyrics to make more church appropriate

I really know nothing about churches, but I like that song . . .

Mavis’ recent performances, new songs and old, have featured Rick Holmstrom on guitar, Telecaster specifically. Worth listening to if you’re looking for ways to approach the guitar aspect.

I almost never would say this about any song, but if there ever was a song a white person shouldn't be singing, particularly to a black audience, that’s the one. Of course I’m assuming Bunky or his singer if he has one isn’t black, but that’s sort of implied in the thread question. An instrumental version if that’s what he’s about wouldn’t be a problem I don’t think. Also, I assume from the OP saying he wants to get the audience going, he wants something more uptempo.

Great song, and version, the original is pretty good too. But once again, not really uptempo. I think he’s looking for a Reverend Cleophus type number and response!

A lot depends on the church and if they are willing to participate. Here are a couple of my favorites - one classic and one not so classic. Lots of different interpretations of each on Youtube.

We have a sister church that we get together with sometimes for worship. Last time we did it, we did this one and it was killer:

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but it's a masterpiece without a doubt

Yeah there is one by her I love called How I Got Over I’ve practiced a few times at home that were workable but it is a huge undertaking to do it true justice.
