Just exchanged some texts from a neighbor who had visited the free food truck today just down the road...asked if I'd like some of her food...

Hmm. Said I was not poor yet but she offered some bananas (big bunch of 'em, she's allergic) and 2 English cucumbers.

Was very thankful for her generosity and thought to return the favor by offering her a ride to/from a music jam this weekend (her PU truck's in need of repair), if I feel OK then, or Sunday, back from the repair shop when she provides the truck to the mechanic for repair.

The mindset she said was before walking away was, "It's the way we were taught as youngsters, to share when others might need something. I realize you're not poor, but sharing is the right way."

So, thank you, good neighbor. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

Why are you expressing your gratitude to her here? Is she a member?

This isn't a humble brag is it? Look, please be careful. Your heart is clearly on the line. She might let you down easy or she might dump you hard... but don't worry.

Why did she buy bananas if she's allergic to them?

You and 2HBstrat really need to sit down over some meatloaf someday and talk like no one else was listening.

The neighbor is unattractive in the physical sense, but very beautiful inwardly, because of her generosity, which is a beautiful quality to cultivate. Product of the 60's Grateful Dead culture, wears oversized long denim skirts and shabby clothing to fit her heavy frame. Firmly believes in sharing what extra you have, when you have it. Helps offset others' not having a lot.

Cannot post a pic without her acknowledgment. May try to capture one at the music jam this weekend if we travel together.

We were acquaintances from a local open-mic years ago until she moved into the apartment complex in late October this year. We've been in touch since 2002 when we first were introduced.

No romance here. Just off/on acquaintances who have got along well together.

I hear you breathing heavily, Derek. (Was going to save this joke for Stan, but you earned it first.)

Is this some indication of tribal acceptance or cultural thing?
