New Bigsby guitar - retro cool...

I had been thinking I would have to have a Bigsby replica guitar built for me, when I found this... Made overseas, in the factories that build Gretsch guitars, in limited numbers... the pickups are in between a telecaster and a p-90 - bigger than a tele, twangier than a p-90. The fit and finish on this guitar is excellent, I couldn't find a finish flaw anywhere... the construction is neck-through, with hollow wings - the birdseye cap is a single piece. The neck is wide, and almost fat. I'm very happy with it...

Brandon

I got it from Guitar Emporium in Louisville, KY... they advertised 2 on their website, but told me that Duke Robillard bought one, and I got the other... I don't know if they can get more.

Art Wiggs of Wings Guitar Enterprises (??) in San Jose told me that he is the only dealer in the US that can get them. Art does not have a web presence, but is a Gretsch dealer who I've seen at Guitar shows in Texas many times.

List price is $3200 - $3400... I got a pretty standard street discount.

Good Luck

I saw 2 of these at the Marin guitar show recently, one that looks like yours, and one that looks a little more like a Gretsch Nashville-type shape. Both are very, very cool. I think the dealer from San Jose that you mentioned was the one who had them (he only had Grestch guitars).

I didn't try them out at the guitar show (I hate trying things out at shows), but I have heard the guitars before, and I think they sound good. Something I definitely want to check out again.

Very cool, but that's a LOT of moola. Doesn't Reverend sell one with a Bigsby optional?

Guitarmook - Where exactly di you get that amp in the background? I built two hotrodded tweed deluxes years ago that had the same tooled tolex etc. Is that by any chance a no name maybe 30 wattish tweed clone?

That's a mongrel of my own breeding... I bought a 5E3 chassis (fully assembled) and had Armadillo Amp Works build me a tweed pro sized cabinet so I could run the deluxe through a 15". He happened to have some of that 'tooled tolex' and I love it.

So, the overseas model costs >$2.5k? It does look very cool. I'm just going to continue thinking that the Catto replica costs that much and I can get the import guitar for $450... :) Just because now I want one!

Mine was the overseas model, and was definately not $450 (sorry)...

Interesting that there are new models in the link that DaveinLondon posted that I have not seen before, and they also don't have a link for my specific model, the BY50T. That MAY mean that the 'limited prototype production' for mine has sold-out.

It's been hard to find information on these guitars for the more than 2 years that I've been searching. Still enjoying playing mine, though...

Guitarmook,

Thanks for clearing that up. To further clarify- I am in no way implying that your guitar is only worth $450- that's just about all I could throw into another guitar at the moment! It is a really lovely instrument- and would be a great way for me to regain the vibrato tailpiece I've missed so much since my Guild Starfire III (but much cooler guitar on top of that!)... If yours gets some fingerprints on it and you want to sell it to me for $450, please PM me ASAP!!!! :)

Especially because this is a purely hypothetical exercise, it is very difficult for me to choose between the bigsby tailpiece (i know, it is a BIGBSY guitar) and the wooden tailpiece design- guess I'll have to make it rich and get both!
