I've never played with the acoustic simulators a whole lot, but adding the reverb option to the pedal is a nice touch. Can these pedals compete with the modeling found in the Variax acoustic?

I don't now, but I am getting one.. I have the AC-2 and it works great for that sound you need to have a acoustic on, but this one looks even better.

it also uses COSM, which none of the older versions did. GAH!

COSM is Roland/Boss's own modelling technology. It's what they use in their GT-series MFX.

Now now, no need to get nasty, john! I'll agree that the vast majority of COSM dirt sounds are absolute crap, but some of their other effects are quite nice

That was my attempt at humor... ;)

OK, for those who are still in the dark, it actually stands for Composite Object Sound Modeling and is Roland's trade name for their technology (which incidentally predates Line6 and every other modeling system for guitar, though not some keyboard-based stuff Yamaha did, AFAIK).

I really don't like the tone of any if it that I've heard, but I'm just sensitive that way :). In fact, I'm not sure that it wasn't early exposure to the VG-8 and especially the GP-100 that programmed my ears to identify and detest all digitally-modeled sounds I've heard since... :p

That's exactly what my VG-8 distortion sounds like!

It might actually sound decent. Somehow I find it hard to dog a pedal that attempts to model an electric into an acoustic. What can we possibly expect? I'm waiting for someone to tell me it sounds "organic" or "transparent" or "preserves my tone"

A/B it against an acoustic/electric plugged into a PA. I did that, then with it hooked up to a GE-7 EQ, just started adjusting sliders and switching pickups and playing with the tone knobs on my guitar until I found the setting that worked. It is so close that you really cannot tell the difference between it and my acoustic with a piezo.

I did find that the AC-2 works better with my strat than my Les Paul though. Best tones are on the mid 3 pickups. Also, turn down a lot of the bass in the EQ.

    Hope that helps!
