Here's my latest build in progress. It is a single ended EL34 based amp for about 10w, with EF86 preamp and power scaling (VVR from Hall Amplification). I wanted to build an amp with as short a signal path as possible, and also wanted to build a single ended amp as all my others have been push-pull. I ended up with an EF86 preamp (as i'm fond of the EF86 after my other projects) feeding a single ended EL34. The single pentode preamp stage keeps things very simple, more so than using two triodes of a 12AX7 for instance. The signal path is pretty much as uncomplicated as possible - EF86, volume control, EL34 (no tone controls etc). I don't fancy pissing my neighbours off to get some distortion from it however so i'm adding a VVR circuit that I had knocking around from Hall Amplification to control the overall voltage levels in the amp (preamp and power). Looking forward to seeing how this little guy turns out!
