Seems like a no-brainer to me but I'm interested to hear other perspectives. My car will get me to the store and back provided I don't run the air conditioner. It's basically worn out. I got over five years out of it, so for $3,500 I'm calling it good. Another car would be nice, but then so would another amp, and I can't have both.

It'd be nice to have reliable wheels, but my wife does and we're still on speaking terms. The problem is she doesn't have any amps. I've been looking at a few, any of which I'd love to have: a couple of Landrys, a Ceriatone and a PWE. The points in favor of a new car are I can get around when I need to if my wife's not home. The points in favor of a new amp are too many to list. So it's a toss-up.

The only downside to a new amp is that once my wife finds out we won't be on speaking terms anymore and then I won't be able to use her car. But, on further reflection, if she cops an attitude then she can't use my amp. So there!

BTW for you wags who suggest "Get a Carr amp" they just don't have enough "horsepower" for me.

    Is this for real?

Unless gear is helping you put food on the table and a roof over your head, it’s secondary to core family expenses. But I still can’t tell if you’re being a comedian or not...

Seems to me that a bit of lateral thinking is needed to resolve this conundrum: my call is, amp + Gucci bag.

Cars are bad for the environment, and oh so passe'...

Are you in a locked down area, and if so, why would you need a car to go nowhere? The correct answer is buy the amp.

    What about the third option?

Sell the wife, buy the Vette, buy the amp.

Keep the home fires burning. The biggest financial disaster available generally speaking, is divorce. And the old joke goes: why is divorce so expensive? Cause it’s worth it!

Music is a hobby to me, and I don’t feel right spending freely when there’s household issues being deferred or ignored. That said, I have a lot of gear, but it has taken a lifetime to get there.

If a guy has several amps and isn’t delighted, it’s probably time to get rid of something and re engage.

I would feel like crap loading an expensive pile of gear into an unreliable car, and of course I did so, in my twenties. Threw a rod in a 67 VW van on the way to a gig back in the day. Ironically that van today, would be worth more than a lot of gear.

You can play with a car.

You can't sleep in your amp.

You're asking this on a music gear board?
Of course, you gotta go with the amp!

... but seriously, you're relationship with the wife has to come first. Believe me, I'm on my third (not amp). But I've been with this third one for 25 years and I wouldn't trade her in for anything. :)

    You’re funny.

    Car.

But do you already have an amp? Or amps, plural?

But if your car can’t get your amp to the gig, what’s the point?
    What’s your amp now?

Ask your doctor if lobotomy is for you.
1.) Do you already have an amp?
2.) Are you a professional musician?
    3.) Is this a joke?
