I love the look, but it seems very similar to what some well known companies are doing for half the price. I’d also have a really hard time sending that kind of money overseas to a basically unknown company.

That’s an Aion Electronics DIY PCB!

    :rotflmao:rotflmao

EDIT: I’m not against using the Aion PCB. After reading the OP title, I was expecting something.. more original.

Lol... the Aion does sound good, but that's just whack!

It's nice work, and actually verifying the component values seems like a reasonable idea (although kind of pointless with 1% resistors). All that said, the only hard to find part for a Klon is the specific brand of Ge diode, the general type is easy. So, this seems pretty aspirational for pricing! As to using a DIY board, a well laid out board is a good thing, I have no problem with them using someone else layout. Maybe part of the money is for the cool box?

It is indeed! I’m sure it sounds good; all he had to do was follow the build docs.

But we all know it's that crazy-azz engraved enclosure that makes it sound even better than the others!

Besides, the image of St. Goran the dragon-slayer they used for the engraving —compared to what's easily google-able out there— leaves a lot to be desired.

Perhaps he got the idea for pricing structure from his gear-famous countryman, Björn Juhl?

And by calling capacitors "condensers" it auto-magically makes them more expensive!

People are still chasing Klon Klones? At this point, who doesn't make one?

This reminds me of a local guy on craigslist building and selling "custom" pedals off of pedal pcb boards. He sands (or some other method) off all of the pedal pcb markings, but I've built a few and it is obvious that is what the board is.

Well, it's not that near using the same exact parts as the Klon. The Klon used primarily carbon film resistors and a couple metal films, and it did not use Dale resistors. Those might be Panasonic ECQ-B film caps like the original but some look like the thinner ECQ-V series. The pedal probably sounds just fine but there's nothing in there to warrant charging more than any other Klone, IMO.

You know what sounds even better? A $50 Soul Food and $450 of guitar lessons.

Yeah it seems crazy but think about the whole relic thing. Beautiful guitar in perfect condition won't sell? Throw it down the stairwell and drag it along a gravel driveway + double the price. Now everybody wants it. :nuts

That sure is an official-sounding sentence for not actually having any useful meaning.

The etching is good, but isn’t worth $500. Hell I could build a kit and etch it for 1/5 that cost.

One point of time, we had an influx of boutique and most of them had some TS circuit they shoved in our faces. This gave birth to the moniker YATS.

This Klone glut is an identical situation. We have enough. Move on, invent something. There are thirty other rehashes ahead of you.
