I would like to get one of the new ones but there are none in stock at any local stores. I was wondering if there is a big tone difference between them. I have played the older crates and liked them. If anyone knows a store in the St. Louis area that has one please let me know, thanks.

The GC there should carry Crate...certainly not Eddie's Guitars

I think EdMan57 has played them both, and hopefully he'll chime in.

I own a Celestion G12H-30 loaded V15 and have played through the 1-12" version of the V18.While overall I find the tones quite similar, the newer V18 gives up thicker mids and somewhat smoother highs...though much could be attributed to the larger cabinet and OEM speaker of the V18.I also liked the reverb better on the V18,as it gets deeper and sounds warmer to my ears. The gain potential is about the same [up to '80's hair metal],with the V18 sounding a bit fatter with a slightly looser bottom end.Again,it could just be the speaker and cab size differences. If you like the V15/V16,then you will probably like the V18,and visa versa.

Thanks EdMan. I went to both GC stores today and neither one had a new one. I'm thinking about ordering a v18 online.
