Well, is the Fender JBL D-130 Clone in the '65 Custom Twin 15 the same speaker as the Eminence Legend 151?

And, is the speaker in the '65 Custom Twin the same speaker as the one in the '64 Vibroverb RI? (The Fender P/N's are different for these two speakers.)

    Thanks for responses! Mark

I really don't have an answer for you, but I really dig both of those amps. I dig the sound of of the 15 in both, but mostly in the Twin a little more than the Vibroverb. The Diaz mods really didn't get me like I thought they would.

The emi 151 is not a JBL clone

Yes. I figured that out, AFTER (of course) I posted.

It seems the emi 151 is used in the RI '64 Vibroverb.
The Fender/Emi/JBLClone is used in the '65 Custom Twin 15.

    Thanks for reinforcing my conclusion!

The only speaker currently manufactured I'm aware of that's close enough to a JBL D-130F is the alnico Weber California. It's not an exact copy but it's convincing enough to the job and the quailty is very good too.

while i totally get that the emi legend 151 isn't a jbl clone

it'd be VERY interesting to find out what the "special for fender eminence made 15" with aluminum dustcap" speaker really IS...

frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a slightly tweaked 151 with an aluminum dustcap.

he did? I thought i'd remembered that he had "nothing to do with it" when asked about it on his BBS (which i know you read). I know he designed the alnico's in the 57 tweed twin though...

Well, who makes a good, Fender Blackface knockoff with Reverb and a Weber Cali 15--one that won't break the bank? Mark

Hey "T", just curious, have you played around with the Custom Twin 15 any? Thanks, Mark

depends on what you mean by "break the bank" for for BF tone and a 15" speaker option, I'd start with allen amps... not exact fender clones, but firmly in the fender camp- i've yet to hear anyone complain about an allen amp.
