    First thought: I like it.
Second thought: It looks looks like something I would expect Music Man to design. Not Fender.
Third thought: I still like it.

I think it's lovely and totally doomed. Great body shape, and I like the form-following guard a lot. Very striking, and the length of the guard balances out the extra wood of the offset body in a way the telemasters don't.

It's a bit weird that they've gone with this distinctive shape but then played it safe with standard telecaster appointments and a blackguard colour scheme though. I think that's a missed opportunity. If it had a 'tron or a Christian or a JM neck or a vibrato or something different, I'd be more into it. But I have a tele already.

That is the ugliest thing I have seen come out of Fender since the Swinger.

I immediately turned the image upside down and was disappointed by the lack of smiling fish face like the new Gibsons. Brontosaurus? Perhaps.

Love the inlays, just because I'm a fan of those 70s Jazz basses, but as @nonsense pointed out, I'd be buying it only for the visual appeal...doesn't appear to offer anything sonically different from my tele. I'll put it on my "buy during the 2021 fire sale from Adorama" list.

I’d rather see them use different pickups instead of another Tele setup.

Nah. And they hedged their bets to save money by using Tele parts. I'd rather have a Bronco.

    All in. I love it.

It has the weirdness I love with the tried and true versatility of a Tele electronic setup. I love maple BnB.

The only thing I'm not down with is the Blackguard looks but I'm sure they'll offer it in color also

I think it's pretty cool. It'll be interesting to see if this is a centerpiece of their booth at NAMM or just tucked into the corner as a sort of limited one-off. Also curious if there will be any finish/spec variants at the show.

I've seen a lot of guitars like that -- is it Lace that advertises one that is almost identical, and to my knowledge hardly every bought or played by anyone? -- and the strike me for what they are: simple exaggerations of the Jazzmaster. I think they're uglier than the originals, Some of the features have a similar look -- headstock, body shape -- but others, like the Tele bridge and the block inlays, just look like "throw it on" elements that have nothing to do with the basic form. I don't think it's terrible, but I wouldn't call it good. Just seems like another guitar that nobody really needs but that Fender wants to sell. ZZZzzz.
