i spec d mine out today to place an order. You can only get the 9.5 radius at this time with the 21 fret neck. I actually wanted humbuckers which I am told may become an option soon.

You can get the stainless steel frets so I am going to do it.

Since it looks like a Jazzmaster it more references the Surfin U.S.A. lyrics than the oil tycoon or the street named after him.

    "...and down Doheny way"

Meaning Doheny Beach [near Dana Point].

Yes, I get the reference and the meaning. Unfortunately, the street and the beach were named for someone I would not like to represent.

Ordered mine last week. Now I check the G&L Facebook page hoping to see, "Here's a Doheny in Candy Apple Red........headed to Alpha Audio Works in Mystic, CT."

Longtime Jazzmaster owner here. I recently picked up the Doheny I posted about earlier in this thread. It is a beautiful instrument. It has the most comfortable neck and some of the best sounding pickups I've heard in any guitar. Handles beautiful clean JM like tones and aggressive stuff just as well. I ride the bar constantly, and the DF vibrato will not go out of tune.
If you're able to try one out, don't expect it to be another JM clone. It is its own thing and inspiring and fun to play.

My local dealer has three in stock. The most recent one is empress. So light in weight!

Is using empress a newer thing? I've never really noticed it until recently.

Mine arrived earlier this week. It's on the G&L Facebook page, as mentioned in post #186. https://www.facebook.com/GnLguitars/ I agree completely with what SciFlyer said about the neck and especially the pickups.

How in the world do manufacturers come up with some of these names?? I'm imagining eight people sitting around a table in a conference room with their heads resting in their hands, a long-empty and cold coffee urn in the corner, the whiteboard on the wall filled with some three hundred scribbles, each of them bearing a strike-out... slowly, one of the group looks up, gulping nervously, and scans his colleagues from left to right before hesitantly muttering -

"Guys? ...what - what about... 'Doheny' ?"

As if a switch had been thrown, everyone's head pops up sharply, eyes ablaze.

Glad to see some of you sharing your dohenys. Maybe it’s just me, but g&l takes the absolute most unflattering picks of their guitars on instagram.

It's just a name. And they apparently got you to spend some time thinking about their new guitar . Oh those silly marketing folks

My brother photographs every guitar (G&L and others) on his himself. They are much better than G&Ls own photos.
