New Gibson Custom ES-330

I noticed a new custom Gibson ES-330 on Musician's Friend/GC sites. Couldn't find the guitar on Gibson's site. None of the retailers sites have any info on the guitar besides price and finish (color). Does anyone know what the difference is between this new "custom ES-330" and a ES-330L?

Link won't work now.

If they start making these like the early ones, as they did for a short run once before, that would be sooooo tempting and I think I would have to give in to that temptation.

Bluesjuke, thanks for the fix-o-link. I'll have to do some homework on doing that correctly(I used the "insert link" button, didn't double up on the http ....). But yeah, it looks like they just made a run of blonde ES-330Ls and called it "Custom ES-330." I was kind of hoping for a different, fuller, neck profile ala '59. If so, that would be tempting. I might have to make a call tomorrow for more info.

If you do give them a call tomorrow, please report back with what you find out. I would be quite interested as well.

The one pic on the site does give the appearance of the neck at least not being so flat as some '60s are.

I have the Tobacco burst 330L. It sounds so good and loud unplugged. You don't always want to plug it in.

During the course of a year or slightly over a year, IIRC around '99-'00, Gibson did a historical 330.
Problem was that the cost of a vintage example was low enough that the profit wasn't in it so they stopped.

Reporting back, the info I got out of MF today was a combination of worthless and (probably) wrong. So I left a message with costumer service at Gibson. I'm about to leave an email as well. Will let you know what I find out.

Jetlag, Have one of the used 330L's coming on Wednesday, When I leave for KW on the 13th, I will leave it with you and you can run it through the paces. Pretty stoked to check this guitar out. Thanks for directing me in the right direction.
The Natural, 330 looks to be the same as the L, for what I can tell. they do not have a product description for it.

330's were also reissued around Y2K. They came in natural & tobacco sb. They weren't long-necked like the more recent remakes though. I would've liked to have grabbed one & almost went for it at Wildwood, but at $3k...I balked. Perusing the internet, I found a '63 Cherry Model that was 1/2 the price (at the time) & was easily swayed into buying vintage.

I think you'll be pleased. Great lightweight sounding Gibson w/ P-90 tone. I grabbed a brochure for Gibson Guitars for that period that had a page on the 330 RI's. I scanned the Pic a long time ago, so picture quality is marginal...sorry!

if I may ... suggest strongly you check out an Epi '61 50th Anniv. Casino reissue... these are freakin' fantasic guitars with decent sized necks, Gibson P90s, and a superior level of fit & finish and playability IMO ... a very credible hollow analog to a superb '59 335 Historic IMO.

Several friends have bitten based on my good experience and all are happy campers.

Cheers,
Jon

Love that Grant Green sorta look and tone with the 330, I've never played something that shape with p90s...very cool looking axe.

Guitar Center is showing the new issue on their website too.

Searching for store locations that had any available now turned up zero though.

I too am glad I picked up an epiphone 61 50th anniversary model, has pretty much quelled my long term lust for a 330, at least for the time being! This new one I would like to find out about, because I'm a guitar geek, but don't feel the gas that would otherwise be starting to build.
