Got this a few days ago and just got around to posting. This is the last NGD (new guitar day) I expect to have for a long, lonnnnnnng time.

It's likely I'll only ever own one Gibson LP, and my dream axe has always been Standard in honeyburst. Let me clarify - a "Standard" like they used to make, without the asym neck, circuit board, etc. Last year I bought a very nice Standard in Iced Tea, but I was never able to stop looking for Honeyburst every time I stepped into a store. [IMG] Being a 60s neck kinda guy, I was starting to get panicky since they aren't making them anymore, so I started looking around to see if I could find what I wanted before they disappeared.

I found one at a dealer out in California, but seeing as I'm on the other side of the country, I couldn't try it first, not to mention the hassle of shipping. My local store has had a 50s neck hanging around for over a year, but for some reason it never occurred to me to ask if they had any hiding in the back with a 60s neck. Well, I asked, and they did! [IMG] A brand new 2008 (pre-circuit board) in honeyburst, still in the factory sealed box.

They bring it out of the back, crack open the case, and you can hear the angels sing. [IMG] It's everything I've been dreaming of. A nice top, flamey, but not too crazy (I don't like 'em too "buzz saw"). I look it over real good - bee-utiful work on the neck, frets and binding, just all in all a real beautiful, quality job. I plug 'er in and play for a few minutes - Mmmmmm - yeah - you're coming home with daddy. [IMG]

Now it's time to pay. The sales guy is a real nice kid who I've bought from before. He punches some keys on a computer, then tells me techincally the guitar is "old stock", and he knocks $150 off just like that! Got 'er under 2K.

So here she is - my dream axe, a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard in Honeyburst.

Nice! I've always liked the honeyburst finish.

    Enjoy your new LP!

That's a beautiful guitar, guitarfish. I have the same model in Vintage Sunburst. Love it to death.

gkoelling: Yes, they are weight relieved, but not chambered.

If you're gonna own 1 Gibson LP, (which everyone should), that's a sweet one to own. I'm totally with you on the top - don't care for the "spaghetti" flame - I like it nice a wavy like yours. Also good move getting the "pre-enhanced", especially NIB. Great score!:AOK

Congrats and hold on to it if it makes the grade.

I sold an '02 Standard that was as sweet as any of my Historics and they don't come that special so often.
