I went into GC last weekend and they had this LPC on sale for $2150 plus tax. Long story short, its mine now! A few observations...

Its the heaviest guitar Ive ever handled. Period.
I love the fingerboard coming from strats. Wide and flat. Great for chords.
The definition in the lower registers is amazing, never got this with any other guitar.
I took off the pickguard, might even fill the unfortunate screw holes.

I had a few questions about this guy, if anybody knows:

    1. Is this a nitrocellulose finish (ebony)?
    2. Are the pearl inlays real or synthetic?
    3. So nice looking I keep peeking in the case, is this normal?

Congrats on your new guitar :)

The finish is nitrocellulose, the inlays are genuine mother of pearl and it's definitely normal to keep peeking into the case ;)

    1. Yes
    2. Genuine Mother of Pearl, also known as nacre
    3. Indeed. There is no classier instrument than a black Les Paul Custom with gold hardware.

    Thank you 5E3,

As luck would have it, theres a Marsh 5E3 chassis kit sitting on my bench right now. Need to clear off some radio gear first then build the 'deluxe'

As far as the pickguard, I dont like it because I anchor my pinky finger in that area and the guard is not very stable.

Beautiful guitar man. Black LPCs are a class act all the way - and completely hold their own in any amplified playing situation. From a small club jazz trio to an arena filled with stacks of cranked Marshalls, a black LPC lets 'em know that it's time to 'git down'ta binnus'.

I bought a 2008 Gibson LP Custom this spring and it has become my #1 guitar, I've wanted a LP Custom for years but would never spend the money, I decided that I would finally order one and when it came in it exceeded my expectations. I have many nice guitars but the LP Custom just has something special that the others don't, mine is Ebony and everytime I see it and pick it up I feel like I'm playing the grand piano of guitars.
