interesting. IMO His tone has been great for the whole 5 year run of this band, but I thought that the tones on previous tours (with the super eagle and non-dumble amps) were more jerry-like.

Its probably a simplified version of what he was using. 3 humbucker instead of the mini and the toggle is most likely for single coil mode. Im sure he went to paul and said this is all i really need to the gig.

    Wouldn't that be the Vela?

Being a Tele guy, I like the bare bones Vela. But I will say the various semi-hollow PRSi with the HSH layout is mighty attractive. More than I'll spend at present, but maybe someday.

The last time I saw him play (not with the Dead) he had a few different PRS guitars. Even a year or two ago he didn't play the Eagle exclusively.

    Ditto. Pretty classy looking.

If PRS did it, it'll be well thought out and functional.
I've been pondering a 3 bucker on a guitar, for giggles.

The HB on the stand behind him with trem and 3 buckers is cool too.

Yeah Mike. PRS is king of production guitars for a reason. I need to give more attention to my McCarty Rosewood.

That new 594 sounds so good. I’m a little obsessed. Ever since I heard the little RnB riffs on Rain and Snow early on this tour.

It’s great that he’s comfortable enough to go against the grain of a typical Jerry axe and just do his own thing now. Sounds so comfortable on that.

It’s to the point that when they brought out Wolf — I was a kind of waiting for the 594 to come back 2nd set.

I don't even like the Dead, but I enjoy listening to John playing that music with that group. And honestly, I enjoy watching him play it. John has found a unique kind of joy in the Dead and Co. stuff. His IG posts about it are really something.

He's really found a great second act in his life, making the music he wants, on his terms, and selling out whatever venues he wants.

Did John use the Super Eagle at all on this current tour? He used the 594 for the entire show that I saw (and sounded great BTW). Almost makes me feel bad for the people who bought either variant of the Super Eagle.
