Matt at RedRocket is building me an alder-bodied Atomic, which is his take on the T-style axe. This one will have a Don Mare in the bridge and a Lollar firebird in the neck. It will be finished in a classic sunburst. You can see the flame-maple neck below (it will have an oil finish).

And here's the body. It's got a nice grain, which will show through well with the sunburst.

    More pics to come . . . .

Hey, if you want to skip to the end, this is what she looks and sounds like:

Here's another track (Allman cover). Using my Goodsell 1958 for all tracks; straight in, no effects.

New clip (Crowes cover). Still using Goodsell 1958 through a WGS Reaper.

Here's a little more funk / jazziness. This time it's run thru my Mark Kane Rocket-style amp:

I made that video! I didn't own it --just made the video for Matt. You are a lucky man. That is a great guitar!

Thank you. I remember that gold foil being particularly awesome. And your guitar had a really cool neck.

Hey Gen, that'll be a wicked good guitar!

Btw, I really like that progression you play on the tube vid starting @ 1:09 that pale fire imbedded.

I hope you came up with that part as I've never heard it before.

I wish. That progression is courtesy of Rich Robinson. I have listened to waaaay too much Black Crowes

The binding is sort of Matt's hallmark. His workmanship is superb and the choice of materials and woods is creative and interesting.

That's going to be a cool guitar... I've never seen one of his guitars up close, but I love the look and design.

Ford: Thanks for chiming in. I have gotten to play, I think, 9 or 10 of Matt's guitars. First thing that stands out on them is how good looking they are. Just seriously gorgeous. Second, they are slick playing; he is now using a PLEK setup, and that has improved things even further. His oil finished necks are close to the best I've played. Finally, they are lightweight and great sounding. His stuff is still under-appreciated on TGP, but I think folks are starting to catch on.

The orange Atomic 6 with TV Jones pickups on eBay right now is pretty cool....think it is at Infinity Guitars in Houston (bought a B3 Phoenix from them and had a good experience). They also have a rosewood top Atomic (new) that is pretty great...

New pics of the neck with some amber stain. You can really see the flame now:

....and let's just skip to the finished axe. 100% gorgeous. Don Mare in the bridge and Lollar Firebird in the neck. Will give a full report when it is in my hands.

Gorgeous guitar, always loved the checkered binding he puts on the body.
