This sounds like a perfect 1st or 2nd song on an album. King Animal will be a disappointment IMO if this is the best song on there, but this is very promising and very encouraging - unlike that Avengers soundtrack song, this actually sounds like Soundgarden, and not just Chris Cornell backed by Kim Thayil & Co.

I've been on board with SG since Ultramega Ok but this song blows. It's sounds like one of those songs i would have forwarded through on BadMotorFinger or something.

The ending is ok.

im loving the middle 8/bridge ! awesome turn in a song....although the main riff is pretty generic though....

Sounds like Chris Cornell is trying to sing too high. He's a great singer, he doesn't have to prove anything. Seems like it took too long to get to the chorus.
Some stuff I really like in there. Interesting.
I like Kim Thayil's musical ideas. He's not a technician, but he is very creative and comes up with some cool stuff and when you hear it, you know it's him. I think that's the mark of a great guitarist, that recognizability. In fact, I think that's a Les Paul quote: "Would your mother recognize you on the radio?"

Well, I don't know yet. It isn't terrible. It isn't great. Mediocre? Kind of what I expect from aging rock bands. I don't know that I have the desire to listen too it again. I am sure I will at some point. Maybe it will grow on me at a later date.

Gave the song a few good listens today and I think it rocks pretty hard. A little simpler and catchier groove (reminds me of recent Foo Fighters a bit) but its undeniably SG. Has the odd time signature twists in there and texturing that are SG trademarks. I think Chris sounds pretty good too... he has lost some power on his voice and its a bit raspier now but I think he does a good job. Better that some of his recent solo records. Definitely has some Superunknown qualities to it along with a new and fresh energy. Overall way better than I expected and if this is the safer "single" song on the album then I am really looking forward to hearing the rest of it. Bottom line is the world needs some good straight up hard rock music and this is a welcome addition to the indie rock garbage thats all over radio today.

Kim's signature "snaky middle eastern "riffs are all over in this song - you just know its him in there :). Actually i thought this song would fit right in Down On The Upside - their "loosiest" record to date.

BTW, during DOTU - the first single released was Pretty Noose, which was a pretty straightforward SG song but the gems were the rest of the album, so i'm pretty sure the rest of King Animal would be pretty ace

Nice groove!! I dig it.
Matt Cameron's snare sound is AWESOME!

I actually thought that track they did for the Avengers movie was really good, too.

This is pretty much how I feel. I'm liking the song more after a few times through. I think Chris sounds good. At least he doesn't sound like he's pushing his voice past it's threshold. I think it's very much in his comfort zone & something that won't kill him live singing it over and over.

I like the mix a lot. Guitars sound awesome. It's great to hear these guys with some good modern production.

I'm probably gonna pre-order.
