I've had one of these in the 2-slice model for the past 15 years, built like a tank. makes perfect toast, worthy of it's own hipster toast themed restaurant circa 2015. this is the Cadillac option.

Thanks for all of the sincere replies so far. I am willing to spend for lasting quality and performance; however, I am put off by some of the negative reviews on Amazon, et al. Suprisingly, even Consumer Reports' recommended top picks have some of the worst reviews.

Sometimes it's all about taking risk for reward (in the most trivial sort of way).

I'm a toaster oven aficionado. I need an appliance that does more than just toast bread.

    I don't think I've owned a regular "toaster" in about 40 years.

Here's a tip: peruse your local yard sales. ;)

    :D

We have a Smeg that replaced a Dualit. So far - a couple of years in - it produces more evenly toasted examples of a variety of breads than the Dualit did, with improved outcome repeatability in terms of the timer. Not that the Dualit was bad - the Smeg has just been better in our experience.

I've been very happy with my Breville toaster oven.

I have the Breville toaster oven and it's great. Good for toasting burger buns as well, using bagel mode. I gave my conventional toaster away after I got the Breville.

I like the traditional 'toaster oven' as you can also cook things like a small chicken in them...
I prefer them with kt66s but el34s will work also....
