    Hi,

I had a problem getting my archtop to sound the way I wanted. It didn't sound like my friend's 1956 L5. Mine is a 2 year old Aria FA-71. The difference is obvious and even though I realize the Aria can't sound as good as a really good and really expensive L5 I still wanted mine to sound a lot better.

I figured the problem was in the midrange. In a conversation with pedal builder Björn Juhl he said that the old jazz players used their amps more overdriven than people generally think.

I had just received my Zendrive which does wonders to the midrange and also give some overdrive so I hooked it up and the sound I got was much much closer to the L5 than I could ever had hoped for.

I played for hours with this sound. I thought this sound deserved to be heard so I wrote this little tune for my Zendrive.

I think the sound will get even better when I've had the Zendrive so please give me your opinions on the tone.

    Here's the tune:
    Hopefully

    Cheers,

    Mats N

Very nice tone, very musical, a great example of using of the Zendrive at cleaner levels. It would be interesting to hear your setup without the Zendrive as well, to hear the difference. I've been a big supporter of this pedal for a year now, and think it's a great preamp, and an absolute steal for the money.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Very nice clean tone Mats.

Would love to hear it without the pedal too for reference.

    Hi Mats -
Beautiful song! Loved the tone. Sweet playing! It's been in the back of my mind to get a Zendrive for my Gibson GA15RV amp. But it's 2 months backordered.

Really great tone Mats! Reminded me of Adam Rogers tone. Firm and well defined.

Great playing and really nice production.

Just curious, what were your settings on the Zendrive?

    Hi,

Thanks to all for your positive words.

Tga-3 and unburst - If I remember correctly I recorded the intro without the Zendrive as I too wanted to hear the difference. I will make an mp3 out of it and post it as soon as I get the time.

Scottl - Never hear of Adam Rogers but will definitely check him out!

jamminoutload - settings were (and still are :D) volume at 3 o'clock, tone at slightly below 12 o'clock, gain at 9 o'clock and voice at 11 o'clock.

    Cheers,

    Mats N

Very smooth Mats:AOK Guitar sounds sweet. Playing is smooth too.

  10. Very sweet sounding...

Are you using flatwounds on your jazz box?

Is this direct in from the ZenDrive or are you also using a regular amp?

    Great playing and tone!
I have always liked the Aria guitars, and the Zendrive sounds perfect with it.

    Hi Michael,

    Thanks for listening,

My thought was to put flatwounds on it but the regular wound 0.13 that was on the FA-71 when I bought it sounded so good that I left on.

Signal chain is FA-71 -> Zendrive -> Boss GS-10 (Warm Clean amp model) direct into computer soundcard. Only reverb added at mixdown.

    Cheers,

    Mats N

    Hi Slackandsteel,

    Thanks for listening,

I haven't had time to explore the Zendrive beyond the archtop experience but I feel fairly certain that the Zendrive will inspire me to write many more tunes and backing tracks.

    Cheers,

    Mats N

    Hi Marello,

Thanks for listening and thegood laugh.
I'm actually trying very hard to find time to use it the "proper" way.
I thought I would have some this afternoon but then we had to go to IKEA. New beds and chairs for my two boys means no more new pedals for a while. I was thinking of a Timmy.

    Cheers,

    Mats N
