Yea, but without everything else being miked, I don't think that'd work very well.

In my case, those get on/off quick, backline, multiple bands playing kind of gigs always suck. Maybe with the variax and helix, mine sucked a little less? At least with that rig, some of the variables can be worked out before hand. I personally feel like those gigs are a waste of time and energy. They are almost always preempted with some promise of getting a good gig out of it, exposure or some other carrot in front of the donkey. If left up to me, we'd only play gigs where a proper set up and monitor situation could be established beforehand.

Regardless, it was an interesting experience. If I can make the variax/helix combo work for that band, it would sure make life easier. Otherwise, I'm left switching guitars every other song, not to mention retuning for the drop d tunes.

If you can get a feed from the PA then pipe it into a Rolls PM-351 or similar mixing box and you’ll be able to mix that with one of the outputs from the Helix.

Another alternative I use is that my IEMs are Westone AM30s. They allow some of the room sound in. Then i lower the IEM level to balance with the ambient sound I’m hearing.

Yeah, "legacy exotic" models need to be available for all JTV and Standard Variaxes. Like, ASAP.

Pray to your favorite $Deity if you ever remove all the strings at once.

Those still sound GREAT. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see an updated model. The 12 string was fabulous but you couldn't detune it.

I was sent a Line 6 survey about Variax guitars this morning. That tends to tell me they are still in the planning stage and we won't see the next generation for quite a while. But at least they are thinking about it.

I still use the Variax Acoustic every day. I'd love an update of any sort.

    Thinking about getting a JTV-59
Does the alternate tunings not sound good or do I misunderstand your request ?

Yup. I want all of the exotic models back too. Shamisen, mandola.....that stuff should be on every Variax.
