I never went into VOX territory with amps but always loved recordings made with them.
My question is ,in a coverband situation can they do other styles as well ?Say VH,Ironmaiden styles or is the amp strictly more Beatles,Tom pettyish tones?
Would the clean Channel with a pedal cover more bases or is the character of this amp to strong ?

IMO the AC30 can be used for just about any music genre with the right pedals.
Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Rory Gallagher, Brian May, Status Quo and many other hard rock and blues players used the AC30 at one point or another.

If you get the new Handwired you'll even get a "Hot" mode in the Top Boost channel that engages an extra gain stage for more aggresive tones. Cleans and edge of breakup sounds are out of this world in this amp, I can't really think of anything negative to say for what you need it for.
