So I finally bit and brought home an SG. I've had teles, strats, LPs, 335s, etc, etc but never an SG. So I brought home a beautiful 2012 '61 reissue. Felt great right away, good weight, love the '57 classics, great neck, only thing missing was the vintage correct appointments. What's up with the nashville bridge? Looks so wrong on this guitar. So, quick visit to the CV Guitars website led to a complete Faber hardware overhaul. ABR-1 style bridge that dropped right onto the nashville posts (yes!), new thumbwheels and posts and a new tailpiece. All gloss nickel. Then came the RS Guitarworks vintage 50s SG wiring upgrade kit. Then the bridge pickup somehow crapped out so I swapped the new '57s with the nicely aged set of 57's that originally came in a '94 Lonnie Mack FLying V I picked up a while back (the LMack now has sheptones in it).
This SG started it's life as a sweet instrument. Now with the help of CV Guitars and RS Guitarworks it's a total monster. Tone, looks, it's everything I hoped for in an SG. And the nearly 20 year old '57 classics are sublime. Pure vintage warmth.
And now (drum roll please....) here she is:
