Congrats man. That’s awesome. My wife says I need to stick around at least another 23 years to hit our 50th anniversary, so I’m right behind you.

Congratulations on the sobriety, which I am guessing is the hard part, and on getting a beautiful Les Paul. (waiting for that is also a hard part.)
I recently bought a Bourbon Burst LP, and I love the color!

I have never had an addiction to liquor, only to smoking ciggies, but I now vape. Amazingly to me, my doctor told me my lungs are clear and sound good.

I wish you all continued success in fighting your addictions and conquering them.

OP - I don't know you, but I'm so incredibly proud of you.

I hit 4 years of sobriety this past Sunday. Reading this thread and the experiences of those who have overcome addiction is inspiring. Like others, the birth of my daughter and health issues at 31 years of age were the catalysts to my change.

Guitar was my saving grace. All of the wasted time spent drinking is now devoted to being a better father and becoming a much better guitar player. Instead of drinking every night after work, I now "wind down" with a Les Paul while my little girl dances and sings. I never realized how much I was missing.

Congratulations on your accomplishment and on one bad ass beautiful LP.

Proud of you as well brother. Congrats! Every facet of my life got better when I quit. Repaired my relationships with my wife (now 27 yrs) and my adult children (21 & 23), got promoted at work, got out of debt. During my last 5 years of heavy drinking I calculate that I spent $45k in booze and late night food runs. I tell my story like this to possibly help others. And it helps me remember where I came from.

Congrats on the sobriety and the beautiful guitar.

Probably a stupid question around these parts, but why not pull it straight from the case and play it? What risk is there if it isn’t allowed to acclaimatise?

Rapid temperature changes can cause checking in the nitrocellulose lacquer. It’s been 20F around here and it may have sat in a truck overnight while in transit. I gave it 3 hours in the case in my 70F office before cracking latches, then another 30 minutes before taking it out. Better reasonably safe than sorry.

I loved the Bourbon Burst on the '58 VOS I had.
