Ive been searching for a new guitar for about 6 months. In my mind, I wanted something that was lighter than the 7.75 lbs PRSi that I've been gigging with for the last 10+ years. Also was ok with a hard tail or trem, as long as it wasn't a Floyd. I'm not a huge fan of bolt-on necks so I was leaning toward set neck. Also I'm a rosewood guy.

And this is what I end up with:

It's a new Charvel Pro-Mod So Cal. It's 8.5 lbs, so there goes my light weight wish. Bolt-on maple neck with a Floyd....I suck.

But I can honestly say I've rarely had those "moments" in a guitar store with a guitar. Actually picked this one off the shelf to try out an amp I was looking at. And then it was "damn, this is my guitar".

My first Floyd since high school (that was a mess) so no chance I'll gig it until I get really comfortable. But I'm jacked!

Nice! I've been eyeing one of those silver sparkle Pro-mods, which also goes against everything I usually pick in a guitar...

    Hey... good for you!!
I bet going outside of your regular guitar preferences might expand your musical creativity.
    Congrats on the new guitar!

Its funny how there's a sort of stigma attached to Floyd-equipped guitars among some of the old school, classic rock and blues guys. (I'm one of them) They seem to conjure images of cheesy shredder dive bombs, pick squeals and pink spandex. I don't think it's fair. I think they offer tons of creative possibilities that you can't get from anything else and nothing stays in tune better. I think that's a beautiful guitar. I was thinking of grabbing something like that myself.

    You did good.
Rules are made to be broken.
Just because the guitar has a Floyd doesn't mean you have to do dive bombs and "gargles".
Play the hell out of that thing!

Who makes the Floyd? Is it an original? I love black chrome.

Ha, I had a similar experience today. Bought a guitar online without checking the weight at all. Fingers crossed that it's lighter than 8lbs.

Just to be clear, I'll be doing a ton of divebombs and "gargles", because I can! When in Rome....

I can relate to this for sure. My favorite guitars have ended up being the ones that I least expected and wasn't looking for.

I'm gasing a 2016 San Dimas vary bad lately. Also started a thread here with some questions that you may help if pleases you. How did you find the neck shape? How do you compare with more well known models like Strats, Ibanez RGs and Les Pauls?

Also they change the volume knob position this year. Does it disturb access to the PU switch?

    Thanks

I've been wanting a dedicating shredding guitar with a floyd for a long time. Probably gonna hit the pawn shops and look for something like you got.

    Beautiful guitar!

    Always wanted one of those!

I used to be a floyd guy because its all I had. Now Im primarily a hardtail guy, just dont care for the hassle of string changes and alt. tunings on a floyd anymore.

I did however take my floyd equipped Kramer out of its case, gave her a strum....hmmm...still perfectly in tune and this guitar hasnt been touched in over ten years.
