Well, I guess we can go only so long without getting GAS! And when we do, it must be handled correctly! So I handled mine in getting a custom Korina V made for me. This is very special as I was the "apprentice" for the builder during the build. So I did many things - such as run the vacuum, pickup tools, run for coffee - all those things that really help the luthier. The dimensions are exceptionally authentic as I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful luthier provide me with them in order to have a period correct build. The guitar looks like it will weigh out at under 6.5lbs. I should be getting it in a few weeks when the finishing is complete. I had only 2 deviations from the original: I put JESCAR .100 x .051 stainless frets on it and the truss rod bolt is a traditional single rod, but with a 2-way bolt assembly in order to move the neck in either direction. Here are the pics:

Just trying to stay "kosher" with forum rules. I'll post more pictures once I have it in hand and give everyone a tone and playability report.

Boy that's a dead ringer for the vintage Gibson '58 V. And the korina stock is gorgeous. I'll be she'll sound and play fantastic. What kind of pickups and electrons do you have in mind?

I'm putting in a set of 59 PAFs that Bobby Tyson has just completed winding. I have a set of late 50s Sprague Bumblebee capacitors that are also going in (0.022mf @ 400v). The potentiometers will be CTS 525k so that I get at least 500k out of them. Switchcraft 3-way toggle for the pickup selector and for the 1/4" jack.

And yes, the fretboard is pre-CITES Brazilian rosewood. I was fortunate that the builder had that highly flamed Korina in stock. More pictures to come...

Can't go wrong with the classics and that's a damn fine example.

Nice work. But why would the builder need to be anonymous?

Because some would consider it a replica and posting about replicas are against TGP rules.

Btw, nice build! I too would love a Korina V and a Korina Explorer even more. :) Maybe someday...

So, you posted the Korina V anyway, even if it's against the rules, what does it make a difference when you name the builder? there's dozens of V's and Explorer build on TGP, and we're not talking about Gibson V's and Explorers..... f**k Gibson anyway.

That has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of korina I've ever seen.
