Hi all. A recent Les Paul Historic G0 experience has put me on the prowl for something with a 60's neck (well, "something" that I could afford was probably more important). I picked up a gorgeous 2000 LP Studio in transperant dark green a couple weeks back; nice guitar, but the neck is too big (that one I can turn for a good profit though). Last night, was drooling my way through Ebay, I came across this

Its a 1991 Les Paul Classic 1960 in transparent red with some flame. While staring at the pictures, I remembered seeing pictures of a '58 Standard named "Sweet Cherry" years back - at the time, I thought that was the most beautiful guitar in the world.

So, with the sort-of blessing of my much-better half, I pulled the trigger. I think I'm in love...

Not being a Gibson guy, I could use some info on the early LP Classics. In particular, what is the general consensus on the pickups? Tonally, I'm a fan of almost any Alnico-2 pickup (I have APS2's in my Strat and Seth's in a 335 copy).

    Thanks for the help!

This won't be much (any?) help, but great score.

I've often wondered why more Lesters aren't this great color.

It's not as if anyone would have to puzzle out the finish technique or anything.

Me too. You'd think that new painters practicing CSB finishes could just shoot the entire top with the cherry if the burst didn't look right :BEER

Thanks all. I can't wait to get a couple pickups in it with (aged) nickel covers and remove that pickguard! :drool

(of course, the original parts will be kept somewhere safe).
