I really enjoy "The Stare Down". No rush, it's foreplay = waiting period for new guitar to get temp acclimated before opening case. I wait 1-hr + before removing from shipping carton, then 1-hr + in case. Often, both stages are longer. It's a bonding period, perhaps I'm nuts to enjoy.?.

What's your wait process/emotions on receiving "shipped" NGD.

Shipped from cold place, but spent night at carrier hub here in SoCal, which is normal and carton wasn't cold, but still go through process. Maybe it's karma, bonding, etc :).

    PS Stare down continues.

As soon as UPS hands me the guitar I open it.
All the guitars I’ve purchased online (which is a lot) none had any problems except one Strat, the neck was bowed but the fine folks at The Guitar Shoppe in Laguna Beach were able to correct and the seller paid for the repair.

    Crack that thing open already!!!

    Don't Do It!

You'd diminish the bonding and therefore the mojo.

    Oh yeah?
Mom also said my brother and I were getting motorcycles for Christmas one year (we didn’t) and she also said “once you’re 18 you can do what you want....” but once we turned 18 it was a case of “not while you live under my roof...”

    Moms handle the truth recklessly.

I open forthwith upon receipt. But I also (still) shake presents the night before Christmas.

I have a '73 Tele that has the same case, but with quite a bit of aging.

I know it's ready, but I'm not.... it's a process that can't be broken. Honestly, when you had 30+ woman/guitars, you then find joy in teasing them...pay back time, this guitar is anxious, yes, so let her wait.

This guitar might bring a Tele fan fond memories of a performance in 1969.

Friend of mine has a D-28, in about 1971 he took it with us when we traveled to visit our friend in Colorado. He kept it in the trunk, it was snowing. We were in the Rocky Mtns.
He brought it inside the house.
Opened the case, and you could see and HEAR the finish check completely as soon as it was opened.
Looks cool now. He wasn't so happy when it happened then.

If its really cold I usually leave a new arrival in the carton for one full day. Then I take it out of the cardboard and leave it at room temperature in the case for another day before I open it. I know that's overkill, but...

Can’t you snap up the process with a hair dryer?

Fed Ex receiving depot in front of a supervisor. and it was cold in there.. i didn't care one bit. I needed to know if it was all there

It's okay if its cold where you open it up if the guitar is cold, too....
