How many people have their No#2 guitar simular to their No#1? Does it rival your No#1 or is it completely different.
My No#2 is completely different gretsch 6128EE Duojet, while my No#1 is my old(25 yrs) partsocaster. Sometimes I wonder about the Gretsch, since it's my most expensive guitar yet it doesn't get played nearly as much as my old strat. I do have a backup Strat and and an old Ibanez Artist.

When I was gigging in the 80s, I used a G&L Skyhawk for my #1. I had a real nice SG as a backup, but after hearing the SSS guitar most of the time, the SG would not DO what the Strat type did, and it seemed I broke a string right before a bunch of real Stratty songs. I ended up getting a Strat for a backup. It had its own thing going, too, but not so far off as the SG was. It was way beefier sounding, with 3 Dimarzio SD-1 pups in it. So, I actually ended up using it on several songs that it sounded better for. If I had to use it on a song or two I normally used the G&L, I'd just back off the volume and it cleaned up a tad.

Today, if I was still gigging, I'd probably bring whatever struck me as a #1 and a #2.

My 1 and 2 are very similar. I love Strats so I'm sure #50 and 51 would be similar to 1 ( if that makes any sense).

my #1 is a PRS Custom 24. i probably play it 50% of the time. the other 50% goes to one of these guitars, depending on what the gig is:

Fender Telecaster
Ibanez RG
Rickenbacker 330

i only ever bring 2 guitars to a gig. getting around NYC is difficult enough with 2 guitars, a combo amp, and a pedalboard. i don't have any more hands to take something else.

I have a partscaster HSS that just won't leave me. Its my favorite for many reasons. I also have a highway one tele that covers more ground sonically and well, its a tele...

Its like having a favorite child, I just can't do it.

LP Standard (r8) is my #1 and a faded LP special is my #2. So they are similar. It's all I can afford.

My #1 guitar is the Carvin DC127M and my #2 guitar is the Carvin Bolt guitar. I guess the first one is a super strat and the other a regular strat.

I don't have a #2 guitar. If I did, it would be an electric to go with my acoustic.

Don't have a definite #1. I have a rotation of three electrics which are all different which any could easily be a #1. I don't like the same thing day after day.

My #1 is a HSS basswood/flame maple, maple fingerboard, 2 point non locking trem, Suhr. My #2 is a HH, Alder, Rosewoodfingerboard/incredibly skinny neck, kahler trem, BC.rich.

So no, they aren't similar, but in all honesty, I have 2 number ones, being those 2. A number 2, being my charvel.. And a few that are far below these three.

I have a clear #1, but about 4 #2s. They are all a little different, but close enough that I can play the set with any of them.

I don't have a number one and a number two. Each guitar I have is different and all have their purpose in the scheme of my arsenal.

I'm going to switch from Powertrons to TV Classics on my Spectra Sonic so it's more or less like my Setzer Hot Rod. So, yeah, I like 'em basically the same in that respect.

I have three guitars and they are complimentary rather than ordered. So in order of how long I have owned them...

Gibson Les Paul Classic
Rickenbacker 330
Rickenbacker 360

I will usually take two guitars out and choose them based on the sounds I want. If I need more gain/balls/etc I will take the LP and the 330. If I want more jangle/clean/etc I will take the two Rics and use the 360 with the 330 as a spare.

I dont know why but the 330 seems to have a more aggressive sound than the 360. So the 330 tends to be the spare when playing out but I tend to go to that one first for home playing.

My # 1 guitar is a Frankencaster Tele. It has 3 Barden pickups and I have it wired so neck and bridge have a 4 way switch and the middle has its own vol. pot. I also gave the back a tummy tuck w/ my Dremel one day when I was kind of bored. (Definitely not the best tool for the job!)

My # 2 is a s/s/h Parker Nitefly. Except for tele knobs it is stock. They couldn't be more different guitars except for sharing the same scale length and yet I dig both of them almost equally. The Tele wins out because it was my 1st and only good guitar for a number of years and I did most of the mods to it myself to make it as versatile as possible for me. The Nitefly I love because it is just so comfortable to play.
