    Hey all-

Just finished a build (5F6-A in a 1X12" combo) and I have a rather strange symptom- while manipulating the volume control on the guitar, I get noise ala leaky cap (as opposed to a "dirty pot" sound) and logic tells me this is the likely reason- yet which cap would be the most likely culprit?

It also, at least compared to my Bassman, (same guts save for a multi-tap output transformer) seems down on power a little bit, although it sounds great. Speaker is a Celestion Gold, fwiw.

    TIA,
    Chris

It may be a cold solder joint on the signal cap.

The cap to check first is the coupling cap before the volume pot.

I thought he was talking about the guitar pot. Could be an oscillation problem. That would lower your power some too.

The 1X12 tapped at 8 ohms is not going to sound as loud as the 4x10's at 2 ohms.

Actually, it's probably about as loud as it should be, with the 8 ohm tap.

-when I stuck it up on a stool, (where I could actually hear it, it sounds about right.

Thanks for the coupling cap tip - I'll check it out in the a.m.:)

I'd check the V1 tube. If you put a 1M on the plate instead of the 100k due to colorblindness ;) I can see it could go into grid blocking. This would put DC voltage on the instrument cable and also explain the reduced gain.
