I want to enter the world of recording and do so inexpensively. I have zero experience with recording gear and I think I would like to start using Audacity.

What gear do I need to record guitar from an amp using a SM78 and capture that into my computer? Would the same gear (perhaps different mic) be used to record vocals? I think if I can get past this, I can start having some fun creating enough crappy recordings that I can begin learning to use the capabilities of Audacity to improve them.

What resources are out there that can provide a noob like me a quick start so I can gain confidence and continue in my learning of this skill?

References to other threads would be great.

    Thank you in advance!
