So I got 3 NOS GE 12AX7WA's for a VERY good price. Unfortunately, I need 4 for my Allen Old Flame. It has Tung Sol reissues in there right now and it sounds great. The tube topology is: V1 - first and second gain stage, V2 - reverb driver, V3 - reverb recovery and gain stage, V4 - PI. So the question is: which 3 spots should get a GE and which one keeps the Tung Sol?

Are all four positions 12AX7? If so, I would try the GE in V1 and V3 and Tung Sol in V4. Then try swapping V1 and V4 later on for taste. No way to predict what you'd like best. Reverb driver is probably close to a don't-care relative to these tube choices. V1 will be an influential position for a NOS tube.

The PI is more important than the reverb driver and will have more effect on your tone.

See what happens when you just swap out V1. The TungSol Re-Issue is an excellent tube and I actually prefer them in my Engl Screamer over NOS Mullard-Siemens.
