I hear so many stories about real tube od/dist pedals.
Which ones are the real deals? And which ones just use a tube in their circuit for show?
Is there any out there that actually use a power tube.
Is there anything out there that can smoke a ss build?
    Just curious.
If you have a tube in a pedal......Chime in.

    Best I've tried which run a 12AX7 over 200v:
    SIB Varidrive
Hot Chili Tubester (out of production)

Very similar circuits. Put it this way: I'm just old enough to remember when guys were dumping big money into having extra gain stages added to Marshall heads for results which didn't compare to either of the above.

Woa I wouldn't mind that coopersonic mini. Good price too! Soundclips weren't bad.

Mhmm the two Duncan ones seem to be nice though I haven't been able to try any.

The Blackstar pedals seem to be amazing. I tried the Distortion one and it sounded AMAZING. Really beautiful. There's a boost, OD, Distortion, metal distortion and a dual channel pedal. GREAT bang for the bucks.

It's not just about the voltages involved.
You have to decide whether you're happy with pre-amp distortion (which you can get from most tube amps anyway), or power amp distortion - which is what most people are really chasing... even if they don't realise it.
There's very few units available that can produce power amp distortion.

Check out the Stage Hog. A real power amp with output tranformer, etc. - all essential for authentic overdriven tube tones at lower volume.

I agree. The * symbol always makes me think of an anus, anyway.

Lemme guess... Vonnegut fan? Wasn't it "Breakfast of Champions" where he drew one?
