Someone on another forum said that he felt the ration of lefty handed to right handed guitarists was 1 in 10...maybe more.
I see bands all the time and have for years.
I would put the number at at least 1 in 50.

I don't want to spark a "Fender doesn't make enough lefties!!" debate here.
It is well known that the choice is usually a couple of colors (if that) and a couple of models from the entire line, and definately frustrating.

From what you have seen over the years, what do you feel the ratio is?
I'm not looking for printed fact...what have YOU seen?

About 10% of the population is left handed. I would assume that about as many guitarists are lefties.
But most left handed guitar players, myself included, play right handed.
Left handed guitars are rare birds and there just aren't many around from which to choose.
We lefties are an adaptable bunch.

agree. i'm a leftie to and play right. tried teh upsidedown guitar thing back in the day but what a hassle. easier to start from scratch and learn right handed. betting that the actual number is higher than 75 to 1. many lefties that don't switch to right get discouraged and quit. i rarely have seen lefties in bands (we're talking local).

Another lefty who plays right here. Wasn't much choice of lefty guitars when I started playing. I'm betting the number of visible lefty guitars is way low, I don't really seeing too many out on stages so I'd put it higher that 75 to 1.

Are we talking lefties who actually play left handed?
If so, it may be less than 75:1. I don't think I've ever actually met anyone who plays left handed but I know a lot of lefties who play right.
That number may be even higher than 10:1. A lot of lefties in creative fields.

We built about 450 guitars. Of those, two were left handed and they both went to the same player.

A lefty here. Tried playing right for a brief period but simply had no co-ordination. I had to be a lefty.

    We've been through this before.
Lefties are about 10% of the pop as a whole, but there seems to be a wide spectrum of bidexterity amongst those who are classified as left dominant.

True righties, on the other hand, are more rigid to adaptation.
The vast majority of all instruments bears this out.

For actual sales figures of LH guitars you may have to consult builders.

I am a lefty who plays lefty. We are an overwhelming minority. Most lefty players I went to school with played right handed. I'd say we are between 2-5% of the market.

20 years ago that was a bummer. Nowadays, not so much. Lots of choices.

    I voted 1 in 75 (I would have voted 1 in 100 if available).
I can deal with the limited options. It makes things simpler for me.
My first 'real' guitar was a left-handed Vantage (Matsumoku factory) back in the early 80s.
Lefties are hated anyway (ex. Having two left feet vs. Being somebody's right-hand man).

That's an adroit observation. FWIW, I just learned that Robert Fripp is a lefty.

I play lefty...playing right handed was a no go for me, I couldn't even hold the guitar. I don't have any problem with the guitar choice. I have a strat, tele, Sg, Les Paul, and 12 string and 6 string Martin acoustics.

I guess I don't have as many color choices, but whatever, I'm a traditionalist anyways, I like white, black, and red guitars.
