Well..that's not been my experience, but I'm sure it depends on what Klone you have. I have a Klone (Mojo Pedals) and Klon....and save for a very slight bit of difference in EQ....I couldn't detect a difference between the two in a Blind Test.

Yeah I had a klon and a clone called the Taurus that is an exact clone except with true bypass and I couldn't tell the difference in a blind test. The real klon is built better and looks better though.

Congrats! Will never sell my silver-face Klon, no matter how crazy the prices get. (Though it would be tempting if they ever hit 4 figures....)

Glad you like it.

I have a Klone and, while I could easily live with it as my only dirt pedal, I prefer pedals with just a little more... character, I guess. Wampler Ecstasy, Zendrive, Barber LTD SR and even the VFE Distortion 3.

Would like to try a real Klon at some point but I doubt I'd ever ante up for one.

Check Ebay's completed listings. Even silver non-horsie ones are going for close to $1200.

I am keeping my KLONe. It held its own against the real one.

I've had 6 Klones and tested them all out against the real Klon...and in the in the Monsterpiece STUD was the winner. It just had something all the others didn't. The others all sounded great including the Klon...but the STUD dominated them all.

So tell me what is so great about this pedal that it commands such a high price?

It is a very nice od, but the hype is what drives the price. Don't get sucked into it. I had one for about a year, gigged it through tweed and bf fenders, but my KOT retired it and I sold it to another guitarist in the band I was in at the time.

I think it is good, but not anywhere near $1000 good which is why I made my KLONe. $300 worth of pedal, and $700 worth of TGP hype, mystery, and unobtainium.

I didn't ask to kill the OP's thread. Sorry. Just would like to know what makes these pedals in such demand. Not to mention the copies that are everywhere. If they can make me into another Hendrix than I'll be happily bewitched. I just don't buy into the hype, but I don't begrudge anyone buying what they want and can afford.

I've got an old Silver Klon as well...LOVE IT.
It gives me a great clean boost, or up the gain and it gets a nice edgy/hairy clean that works well on some of the songs our band does.

Congrats!

Like everyone else has already said its the hype. I have a silver non-horse Klon and it really is a great pedal, but to my ears it's only like 5% better than the Fulldrive II that it replaced.

In my case, I had a chance to but one for a decent price and figured I'll prolly never lose cash if I wound up flipping it. That being said, now that I have had it for a while, I could definately go back to using the FD-II and I wouldnt lose a lot of sleep over it.

Again, it's a good pedal, but it did not turn me into the next coming of Hendrix / Page / whoever...

I have a gold horsie Klon and through my amp, with a good chunky P90 guitar, it sounds phenomenal.

Congrats!
