Hey all, just wanted to share that my Hotbox 3 arrived today. Very excited! I have been going back and forth between buying it and not buying it... finally pulled the trigger.

I am somewhat of an OD addict and somehow pedals keep coming and going, as I am always looking for THE pedal. Which, of course, does not exist... ;) Anyway, here's to hoping that THIS TIME I will have finally found IT! :dude

It will go on the board with my Boiling Point and Fulldrive 2. Will be using it at rehearsal tonight. See how it holds up! I hope it will sound as great as I have seen / heard in the demos on YT!!

That's all I wanted to share. Have a good day! ;)

Congratulations! I see that it's now on a PCB instead of point to point, but that's a welcome change (as long as the usual full AC voltage is still used) in order to make it lighter and more compact. Although sadly, I don't think it looks as classy as the original, with the big letters that lit up etc. As a former BadCat Two Tone owner (its reincarnation), I must tell you that it has almost none of the flavour of tubescreamer-based pedals like the ones you mentioned... Much more clear, less mid-hump, its gain sounds much more natural, its insane volume output is nothing compared to them etc.

I always felt its strongest point was the sweet spot obtained when you have quite a bit of gain dialed, while adjusting the volume pot on your guitar. It's very responsive to the output of the pickups and their EQ - more than the Boiling Point and the Fulldrive. May I ask how much it costs & where you got it from? (I'm nearby - in Flanders).

Thanks! I haven't tried the Hotbox 1 or 2, so I'm not sure how they compare. It would have been cool to have the logo lit up, but still.. it's a very classy looking pedal. It's on a PCB, indeed, and it looks like a very solid build. I just put it next to my other pedals and it's exactly as you say: a more natural, clearer distortion. I like that I have a couple of flavors now. Cool!

I bought mine at Haar Guitars in IJsselstein (Netherlands) through haarguitars.com. They're still pricey, but they're "on sale" at the moment. Used to be EUR 500,- and are now down to EUR 429,-. Shipping included, for what it's worth... Cool pedal / pre-amp and, even at the price, I'm glad I bought it. Matches up great with my Chieftain!

Thanks for your answer! The price is very high - luxury level. I know it's a Matchless policy, but still too high, especially at a price point where someone can easily get a small head that specialises in gain sounds (like a Tiny Terror or a Dark Terror - both sound excellent) and use that instead. Find them 2nd hand on a decent price and one can also get a 2-heads-in-one-cab switcher, too. Much more value for money. But anyway... I'm sure it's terrific - you will enjoy it!
