Picked this up for 20 bucks without knowing it was Japanese or vintage. I had planned to gut it and use the pedal housing for a different circuit, but it sounds pretty awesome already, so I may just fix it up and mod it.

It says only to use the Boss ACA adapter with it, but I tested it out with a normal one spot 9V and it worked just fine. Does the ACA have a special voltage rating for this that I should use, or can I just get another 9V to use with it?

ACA mij Boss, as long as you have another pedal hooked up to the same power supply you'll be ok, it won't work well by itself unless you have an oldschool Boss ACA (12V) adapter.
nice score, a total classic.

After getting a 9v battery into it and playing with it for about 10 minutes, I've decided to keep it as is.

It was sold so cheap because it's beat up and was having "wiring issues" but it was just dirty inside. I cleaned it out, cleaned it off, and now it's working fine and sounds great.
