Was asking my friend from WA State about her preference for gift candy, and the subject came around to nuts, or no nuts. Apparently, my friend is a peanut-friendly person, but doesn't like any other kind of nut.

We chatted for a while and settled on no nuts because of the distaste she has for nuts in general. So we settled on some Ghiradelli mints. No nuts it is.

    Another stellar topic of conversation!
So many folks have nut allergies these days, it's best to avoid gifting them.

My friend says she doesn't mind peanuts, but doesn't like any other kind of nut. She was even bopping around when I told her about the Ghiradelli mints, while I was humming Vince Guaraldi.

Damn. I clearly have a huge hole in my life. BTW, I'm pretty sure a peanut is not really a nut.

People in the know say that Burl Ives calls them 'Goober Peas'.

There was a Help Wanted sign posted for the pistachio orchard nearby, but I try to avoid nut jobs.

I guess it's the same as asking my friend from WA State if she likes mushrooms or not. She can't stomach mushrooms, so I don't mention recipes that contain them. If she's unclear or unsure about something, she'll ask a question.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like answering any questions this evening, so she'll need to research her own questions herself. It's only fair play. If she's confused, don't expect me to provide her with any help unless she's researched it herself first.

People with nut allergies have my sympathy, I practically live on them. But I can take em or leave em because sometimes i feel like a nut, sometimes i don't.:)

You don't know? An old folk singer who sang 'Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer', 'There Was an Old Lady (Who Swallowed a Fly)', 'You're a Mean One (Mr. Grinch)', 'The Blue Tail Fly', 'Goober Peas' from the early 40's and 50's. He associated with the likes of Woody Guthrie & Pete Seeger. Also recorded 'Have a Holly Jolly Christmas'. YOU know, Burl...even though you may not know his household name....was also a children's songs banjoist, guitarist and singer.

I think he's a major player in the lotion business.

I'm with Louis C.K. on this one, if a little nut can kill you maybe you're not meant to live.
    My favorite Nuts hierarchy:
    Pistachios
    Almonds
    Sunflower Seeds
    Walnuts
    Peanuts
    Cashews

    all amazing!!!

I think he's also the only human male named "Burl".

True dat. My best buddies name several years ago before he was hospitalized with a career-ending injury is named Burder, but we know him as Burt. Not many people with names Burl or Burder.

There is a local town in CT off Rte 4 named Burlington, and a coat business named after the town in Bloomfield, CT. That's about as much as I know about 'Burl', though.

We need a thread of strange male names. I knew a guy named Harless. He's now doing time for his 3rd offense involving a minor female (transporting across state lines without parental consent).

All enjoyable. Not sure why my friend in WA doesn't dig anything but peanuts. I usually put a blend of a variety into a trail mix with some dried cherries or raisins.
