Hi, my NUX MP2 arrived today from zzounds. I won't have bluetooth for a while, and after assessing
it's ergonomics, I've decided to mount it on an old electric 12-string, at an angle such that
the jack connection won't get bumped often, while I can still see and press the main button
easily while playing.

Regarding that button, I can access the 4 main amps, and with each press, a different color
lights up, and if I press it again for some longer time, I get what sound like around four more amps,
with different colors on that button, blue, light blue, majenta etc...and in one case, the touch-wah effect was present. Had to tape an eyebrow down after that! Maybe it was the 'bass mode'?

The manual is pretty sparse, has anyone experimented or discovered exactly what
defaults can be accessed from the main button? Makes me wonder if a type of
'morse code' could be implemented in Mightier Amp, where a few extra choices
could be lit up without bluetooth. using timed button presses and combos of such?

The MP2 also sounds real nice with the headphone out connected to vsts like
the old z3ta effects plugin, NI's and IK products etc. Some vintage Byrds memories
crept in when using just the 12-string, and with no cable there to wrap around a rolling chair...
it's all money well spent. Plus the acoustic amp sounds good enough to cover the cost,
what a sweet season to be a musician!
Cheers

Hi guys. I finally found some time to work on the app. It's not much but there's still some interesting new stuff.

Hi tuntori,

first of all: Thank you so much for doing this. Your app makes this thing so much better!

If I could make one request to make it perfect for my needs: It would be fantastic to have a "preferred folder" for the backing tracks. Thing is that I have a lot of music on my phone and the backing track page therefore takes ages to load. Would be much easier for me if It would only look in "my preferred folder" where I can place the backing tracks I want to play along to.

But hey, it's a small thing as I can naturally use another app to play the backing track too.

Thanks again for your work - I can only encourage people to show their appreciation by hitting the "donate" button. :)

The manual could use a little more detail ...

I have two questions about using the device as an audio interface.

1. Is it class compliant for Mac and IOS?
2. Does it record the dry guitar signal, the effected signal, or both?

I have plenty of options but I like the idea of less cables.

Mightier Amp is available on Google Play Store!

Please note that I had to change the package id of the app. This means your phone will think this is a totally different app from the one you already have. You can transfer your existing presets using the export function from the previous version. Don't forget to do this before uninstalling it!

There are lots of new things

  • Added support for Mighty Lite, 8/20/40BT (Not tested - I don't have any of those!)
  • Improved presets section:
    • Highlighting of active preset
    • Highlighting of newly imported presets
    • Preview of what types of effects are used in a preset
    • Added preset category change
    • Added better preset rename/overwrite checks and warnings
    • Presets page state is kept when switching between tabs (Expanded categories don't collapse)
  • Improved Jamtracks section - (Still WIP)
  • Added option in settings to enable to automatically set the matching cabinet when changing an amp through the preset editor like the original app does.
  • Option for displaying 'Time' parameter of delay effects in BPM or Seconds instead of %
  • Changed icons
  • Many bugfixes

I totally reworked the jamtracks section. I removed the listing of the entire media library which was very slow if you have lots of songs. Instead, now you have 2 tabs there - tracks and setlists. Tracks is where you setup all the songs you'd like by adding them from your library and setting up the events. Then in the second tab you can create setlists which feature tracks from the first tab. Then you can play those setlists just like a playlist in a standard audio player only with enabled automatic preset changing. Note that the setlist part is not implemented yet.

Yes - USB Class Compliant - works as Audio interface for Win/Mac/IOS/Android/Linux
USB Audio out can be configured for Dry out or effect out

Really like the changes to the app, especially the detailed listings of presets. Imported them from the previous version and all is good.

Thanks for the really cool effort!

I have forked the app and I am trying to get it to work on iOS. I am already able to build and run it on iOS. The Bluetooth connection seems also to work, but here are a couple of small bugs (currently never leaves
DeviceConnectionState.connectedStart without any error message). I am trying to look into it a bit deeper.

Hey, @LooneyRoadrunner I missed your post initially. Did you have any luck fixing the connection establishment? I might try to help if you're still stuck.

Hi, I've tried the audio-interface part with a few different modern linux installs, and some needed internal hardware config data cannot be seen by linux alsa, and jack-dbus won't even start when the device is selected for audio input. (the internal audio/midi is listed accurately by linux commands, so the kernel sees the device, but not clearly enough) I have an IK iRig2 HD that works fine in the same systems used for testing the MP2, so I assume MP2 has an inadvertantly limited class compliance, since linux testing is not often a hardware maker's priority. Any info leading to good results would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the Mighty Plug, but I was unable to get the NUX MG-300 to work out of the box in Linux despite the claims that it is "class compliant". With some testing and patching to the kernel, I was able to go from not working at all to working sporadically. I ended up returning the device without getting a satisfactory result.

Manufacturers often use the same USB setup across devices, so the patch that helped the MG-300 may also help the Mighty Plug. The patch made it into the kernel, but only recently, so you need to be bleeding edge.

Thanks for the info, I imagine the code has to be excellent
to be accepted in the kernel. I've seen where even wine is
difficult to patch such that it becomes integrated in the release.
uname says the kernel here is
5.4.0-70-lowlatency #78-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT
so I'll watch for newer ones!

I came across this forum searching info about the nux might plug. What a great thread. And much respect to @tuntori for finding the time to creating an app that makes the mp2 even better. Currently waiting for mine to arrive, hopefully it will arrive tomorrow. I got the Mightier Amp installed on an android device and is ready to practice without putting stress on others in this building.

I've read up a bit on this thing, and I must say I am very impressed with the videos I watched and reading this thread. Lets hope v3 of the Mighty Plug will have even better hardware and added storage so one can load custom IR, then this device could really be to everyone's taste. And hopefully many creative people could share their IR.

I have one question about the Nux MP2.

Can I use the headphone out from the Nux and plug it into a PA system without using a DI box? I

f I could do that all I would need to bring for practice would be the guitar, the nux and a microphone and I could plug the guitar and nux straight into the mixer/PA and the microphone as well and I am ready to sing and play.

I practice guitar and vocal both alone and with the band. The place where I practice I can't leave anything of value, like amps and so on. And I hope I can use the days off work now to get some really good practice sessions without lugging around and amplifier and cabinet. Just strap on the gig bag and plug in the nux mighty plug into the PA and start practicing.

So will nux mp2 work in the PA without using a DI box? If it don't I will just practice at home, but then I can't really practice the vocal at the same time. Trying to keep extra quiet now when everyone is working from home.

I've used the MP2's headphone out into a powered speaker with good results. So, it should work into your PA with the right cable, 3.5mm to 1/4" or XLR.

I use the line-in on a pci soundcard with my MP2, great fun to have
the different Nu-x sounds subject to vst plugins. I really like
using the acoustic sound with Raum and Replika, which were
Christmas gifts from Native Instruments in recent years.

An Andertons review of the Fender Mustang Micro had the guys connecting it to a Nord keyboard's interface, and a pedal board,
so I assume the MP2 will be similar on it's output. My GT-40 headphone output also sounds good via line-in
Cheers

Hi! I've been thinking of picking up the Mighty Plug but have a few questions -

most notably, is it possible to turn off the amp entirely (maybe with Mightier Amp?) or otherwise have a mostly clean amp?

I really like the fact you can use this as a USB interface and was thinking of using it with my synths so I can give them some basic reverb & delay effects as well as having USB audio recording.

I'm also wondering what the various effects - for example Red Distortion are meant to be modeled off? And Morning Drive etc.

You can't not select an amp and IR, but maybe one of the acoustic combinations or the JC120 or Twin Reverb would be passable for keys? Hard to know.
The effects are all copied from the larger MG-300 and MG-30 floor units, so someone has probably posted a complete list of the modeled boxes somewhere, e.g., JHS Morning Glory, MI Audio Crunch Box, etc. Most of them are recognizable from their names or images in the larger floor units.

Would it be possible for Mightier amp to add that functionality?

I'd really like to try using it just for verb and IR for my Micro Dark too

I just did a quick test to see how this works. I connected an Arturia MicroBrute to the Nu-X Mighty Plug, selected the JC120 amp, added some chorus and reverb, and it sounds pretty good (through headphones, I did not pull it into a DAW). The other two clean amps didn't sound quite as good, but the JC120 was clean enough to work. I tried it with the OD and Distortion settings as well and had some interesting results as well. It distorted the MicroBrute's sound in a musical way.

So yeah, I think you could use this with synths as well as guitar.

Shouldn't the acoustic amp be pretty flat response actually? The one that's an actual acoustic amp and not an acoustic modeler.
