Starting today, in Chrome as well as IE (which I never use) when I type in www.thegearpage.net, I am brought to "trending topics" instead of the home page. I deleted all cookies associated with the gear page and no difference.

Also I noticed the other day that in a quote in a thread nothing happens now when I click on the little arrow to try to see the original post being quoted. I can right-click on the arrow and open in a new tab, but nothing happens when I click on it.

Here too. I don't care to see "trending topics" either. I just wanna be able to go to the forum I want to see, quickly.

We needed to do that because of Google and search engines, they fuel the traffic that keeps TGP vibrant and alive. We were getting negative ratings because the index page was static and was a redirect from the Home link. You just have to update your saved bookmark to the actual index page URL now. Sorry guys, we have to keep up with the times.

Most sites don't operate this way and have this problem. Can't you read the user agent for google et al., and give those UAs the trending page, and redirect all the chromes, firefoxes, and IEs to the main page?

I noticed that my toolbar that lists my forum name also doesn't popup when I first visit the site.

Google also penalizes sites for redirecting traffic from one url to the other to achieve it.
    Careful.

Right now this is all you see when you google the gear page:
