One of my customers who placed a review on Harmony Central said this about my Blue Classic: "The pedal is the quietest overdrive I've owned."

It's not a high gain pedal. HC reviews are here.

Barber Burn Unit is the quietest one I've tried. Can get pretty heavy.

    +1, both are dead quiet.

In my experience the keeley modded boss pedals were also suprisingly quiet.

My ClinchFX Blue Classic is a very quiet pedal - I've owned the Fulldrive II (including the 10th Anniversary model), HBE, Jacques, Clark, Barber, SubDecay and some other pedals, and the Blue Classic is one of the quietest at high gain.

That said, most of my playing is home-studio, not gigging where things might sound different. I like to buy OD pedals to tinker with, and then sell some to buy new ones when more interesting things come along. Right now, the Blue Classic is the best sounding of 5 boutique pedals i own.

All the boutique pedals are pretty quiet with the drive dialed down, but some throw quite a bit of hiss at higher settings. The BC doesn't really dial up any fuzz or extreme overdrive, but rather more classic blues sounds. It doesn't use a clipping diode and seems to have a very clean signal boost amp, which may be why it stays quiet.

You may have a tough time with a single pedal getting heavy fuzz at high-boost without noise when you're not playing. But better ones like the BC should allow you a good volume kick with pretty good distortion.

+1 on the Tonebone Classic. :AOK

If I'm not playing I have to look at the LED to make sure it's on.
