I have it on excellent authority that these are killer hi-gain amps.

Tell me more Guys and Gals!

I've got a Makoplex - great amp! Tons of gain and feels great to play - the perfect amount of sag when you're riding a bend but plenty tight enough when you're slashing a chord. It's definitely capable of modern tones but has a 80's hot-rodded Marshall vibe to it. However it does not have the 'in your face' present upper mids of a Marshall, it's much smoother, darker and clearer. Kind of like a cross between an Uberschall and the Ecstasy Red channel, although it's not quite as fat as either of those amps but is also less fizzy then they can be.

I really like the Mako. It has some quality to its clarity that I don't find in any other amp. Where a SLO is bright and clear the Makoplex is dark and clear, which is pretty unique.

    Nice replies Guys! Much appreciated.

    Keep em coming!

Did you check out the Makoamplification.com page? Andrew's going to pcp/ptp hybrid - wait times and prices are coming down.

    Cheers

Wow! That's pretty interesting. I personally don't have a preference regarding ptp or pcb. If it sounds good, it sounds good.

I have had an early Custom 100 with Grinder mod for over 2 years. Andrew does great work and is a super smart guy, funny as hell too. He makes great amps.

Cool - I was hoping you would reply Steve!

How does your Custom 100 rank with the other amps you have owned/played? I would guess that the fact you've had it for 2 years is a good endorsement, but I'm still curious.

    Cheers

Its a great amp. I have to say that for the most part all the amps I have owned over the past few years are great at something. The Mako is a great high gainer that has a bogner vibe in some respects as far as the voicing. It is not bright nor harsh, gets great harmonics and is great for high gain stuff.
That said I like some others I have as much or more but they all have their own flavor so nice to have options.

I have a Dorado on order, but haven't actually played a Mako yet. I have a while to go.

They are voiced very different. For what I do, the Fatboy is perfect.

I'm just loking for the meanest most articulate hi-gain and I think this is the deal.

    Mid-life crisis - what can I say:p

Not to try to dissuade you from picking up a Mako, but when I hear the phrase "meanest most articulate high gain" I immediately think of a VHT Ultralead.

Fer sure but you better have your chops together. That amp is like a microscope. It's very unforgiving.

Thanks 6AM - I may be wrong, but didn't you get a Mako?
