I am getting ready to order my new LP after six months of saving and selling stuff off. I can't decide between Ebony or the Limited Edition Goldtop (only 100 to be made, also $100 more). By the way, the model is the Traditional Pro. Vote for the color you prefer.

Someone posted this on the LPF the other day, and I've simply fallen head over heels for this color combo.

I'd love to have a goldtop, but I just love a black and chrome LP!

I love black LPs, but they get really smudgy and gross. I'd go with the goldtop for sure.

Goldtop is timeless- but I really like Ebony too, especially with vintage tint (old looking) plastic. Don't like gold hardware, even on Customs.
But, at the same time, I like dark wood backs better than painted backs, is this how the Trad pro's are? I think a dark hog back with an ebony top, nickel hardware would be the stuff.

You saved for 6 months and you still don't know what you want?

Well, if only 100 of the GT are being made then it will have better resale I guess.

GOLDTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (though I have an ebony which is quite rocknroll)

My PRS SC Goldtop was said (from a bandmates wife) to be the best looking guitar that I've owned yet. Just something about that GOOOOOLLLLLLDDDDD......I want to paint his yoohoo GOOOLLLLLLDDDDD.

If you're still asking that question after 6 months, you're still not ready--and that's not a bad thing. Save the money and keep looking. The search is 90 percent of the fun anyway and it's a lot cheaper.

I'm absolutely positive about the model and I thought I was completely sure about the color (ebony) until they released a limited run of 100 Goldtops in this model. Now it's got me thinking!! This will likely be my last LP purchase for a long time and I don't want to regret my decision.

I like them both equally. I voted Gold Top, but I'd vote Ebony IF you'll be one of the few who actually keep your guitar cleaned and polished. Nothing makes a beautiful Ebony guitar look gross than smudges and finger prints all over it. BUT a clean, polished one is over-the-top sexy and awesome to behold.

Looks wise, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

    Highly doubt it.

You're a fool if you DON'T get the Gold Top! Look to my limited knowledge they only make Gold Tops Standard and above. (Unless you consider Epi's) However you can get an ebony in a used studio on craigslist in almost any city for $650 to $700. If you get the ebony everyone else will be like "oh look, a black guitar, ummmm, yeah, a black guitar." If you pull out a Gold Top, even people that don't know a guitar has strings will be like, "HOLY FN ARSHENHALA, IS THAT A GIBSON GOLD TOP?" The next phrase will sound like this, YOU ARE THE MAN!

I pulled the trigger on a Les Paul traditional recently. Like you I was torn between ebony (great rockin' looks) and Goldtop (beautiful, and stands apart).

    I went Gold Top.

I would normally go Goldtop, but we just got one of those in today and the back is almost red in color. If it was natural like the VOS, I would do it but in this case I am going with the Ebony.
