Hey all, just received an e-mail from Michael Joly with a video and some information on his latest creation and thought I'd share it here for those who are interested. Enjoy!

Here's the youtube shootout vid:

And the link to the youtube page:

Let me know if you'd like me to forward you the email, it's a mass email.

FWIW- I just recently sent him a MK-319 for the premium mod and am very pleased with the results.

Hmmmm..Cool video.

The N's were my fav in every situation with the Octava coming in a very close third. Pretty impressive!

It's funny (because I normally like them) but I didn't like the 414 on any of these tracks.

Agreed- the Neumann's are amazing mic's, but for people like me who record in their homes in less than perfect rooms, the OktavaMod gets the job done.

Made me wonder about that 414, too. Seems like I've read and heard that some old ones start having problems with the capsule. I don't know too much about them, but I wasn't crazy about it in this shootout.

I think the most important test of quality is how well the tracks stand up to EQ and compression in the mix (and during mastering).

Shootouts sound like a better idea than they are a practical assessment, imo.

But it was fun to watch. :D

+1. The clips were quick, but I liked the AKG the least of the LDC. The Oktava compared very favorably. I liked the FET a lot.

Far less than what I should have paid for this quality of sound. :aok

All said and done, just a bit over 350.
