Anyone have any pics of old painted amps? It seems like painting your amp was more common in the 60's.

This was originally a 1957 Gibson GA-20. It was painted in the mid 60's by my father-in-law who was in a rock cover band called Sweet Briar McCheese. I guess he didn't like the original brown color.

The amp was brought back to original specs with all new caps and resistors and then improved upon by Andrew Cheshire in Ephrata. It now has a trem circuit and a standby switch. Today, it sounds more like a Fender Deluxe than a GA-20.

    I call it Captain America!

No doubt your father in law was a big fan of Easy Rider.

Anyone else have a painted amp? I'm really curious to see what else might be out there.

I met Wayne Kramer about 5-6 years ago. I was at my buddy's parents summer house out on Lakeville, MI and Wayne came over to hang out with him. He definitely didn't look like this anymore. LOL However Wayne was a super nice and cool guy. It was over Memorial Day weekend. I even asked him where his Strat was considering it was Memorial Day and he laughed.

Nice amp. How did you wire those gauges? Sorry for OT question. I have 2 current gauges (reads upto 50mA I think) that I want to use in a future build. Just looking for ideas. Thanks
