I have a 1992 AVRI Stratocaster in Daphne Blue that has non RW pickups that sound really vintage with fairly low output. I am wondering if other owners of older model AVRI's like these pickups or have upgraded them.
The neck on this guitar has a slimmer profile which I don't mind. But am thinking of upgrading to 57/62's.
    Thoughts? TIA!

I like them. Good, chimey, strat tone.

Why upgrade them with a newer set of 57/62 strat pickups? what are you hoping to improve?

The newer set will still hum. You need to find a rwp middle pickup.

    Older 57/62 are 6.1k
    Newer 57/62 are 5.65 k

I have them both. I own a 94 and 2010 62 AVRI. Both are great sounding pickups but I don't like hum either so I replaced them with Dimarzio VV pickups.

They're OK. I like CS Fat '50s, CS '54s and Fralin Vintage Hots better.

I have an early production and hd it about 20 years and love the pickups, well defined, clear and no worse than any other strat for hum.

Upgrade? That is a funny word....'upgrade'.

Every single person without question said to themselves they were 'upgrading' their 50's-60's strats by routing the body for a humbucker, installing a Kahler and putting on sealed machines in the 80s.

The AVRI pups were made to reproduce the original 62 black bottom pups as close as they could.
Even today if you have an AVRI changing pups will lower the resale. People learned valuable lessons about tearing up perfectly good guitars in the 80s to be more like EVH.

I say keep it the way it is, they sound great. If you dont like it sell it and buy one you like the sound more.

If you like how it sounds now, then replacing them with newer 57/62 won't yield too great of a change. They may be slightly higher output, but the tone will be similar. You could raise the current pickups a bit from where they are set right now, and you'd probably get close to the sound that the newer higher output 57/62s would have.
