My next amp is a single channel 1x12 combo, preferable 40 watts or under, that excels at cleans, has good headroom, and loves a Strat.
I’ve researched so much that I’ve completely confused and flustered myself. I have a small but useful board and other sounds covered.
I also need to spend less than $1500 and would prefer simple with great reliability.
Suggestions are welcome and I’m okay with small builders.

Which era Fender are you talking. If tweed ... my L'il Dawg tweed DLux came to me in a 1x15 pine cab with a Legend 151 ceramic speaker. It's an enhanced tweed deluxe in essence. Larger iron, can take 5881 power tubes. Mine sounds best to me with 6v6s. Sounds far louder and larger than the watts would indicate, and is simply spectacular with my old strat. As good with that strat or better than any other amp I've tried.

Contact Dave Gries at Gries Amps. His website only lists the Gries 5 but I believe he's been working on a 20 watt amp that would be a great fit for you.

Would love that but too bulky and heavy for my needs.

You should be able to score a 70s Silverface Vibrolux in great shape for that dough. All the fender you could ever need.

I love the sound of that but the whole vintage amp thing makes me nervous. Maybe I need to go down that rabbit hole.

Grab a 68' Custom Deluxe. Totally in your price range, absolutely loves pedals (especially on the Custom channel), has great reverb, and is brand new with warranty. I LOVE mine with my Eric Johnson Strat and an OCD or Skreddy fuzz!

If I may be honest, a Deluxe Reverb reissue with a speaker change and good tubes sound like it’s exactly what you’re looking for.

Vintage Pro Reverb. IMO, it's THE Strat amp.

Low Power Tweed Twin. Yes, it's a 2x12 but it's actually easier to schlep than an AC15. ;)

sounds like you’re describing a Vibrolux of some sort, to me.
2x10, but if you’re really dying to, you could do it as a 1x12.

not be nervous about the vintage amp thing. it’s not a big deal. just get it looked at. a properly gone through vintage Fender is gonna be a workhorse.

i’d cast a dissenting vote on the ‘68 reissue stuff.
i’ve toured w/ the Princeton as backline, and used two different of the Deluxes as backline for three different gigs about two weeks ago. all very meh, or less, for my tastes. I think that’s gonna be further from what you want than even the 65 DRRI thing. imho.

you could easily get into a great vintage Fender trip for $1500.
find a kinda trashed silverface Bandmaster, get it gone through, put in a small cab w/ a 1x12, boom. my friend just did that, it’s pretty sweet - snakeskin!!

Fender Pro Jr IV Tweed, 15W, and 1x12 (ported) cab, loaded with a Cannabis Rex 12, sensitivity 102 db, SPL 110-115 db. Equivalent to 50W.

Loud enough to play with band or low home volumes.

    Used $500.00.

    YMMV

Try it with an ET65 or GA-SC64, massive improvement over that stock Jensen reissue

You have to narrow it down a bit more.
Do you have any favorites from your research ?
Or maybe from listening to YT clips ?
Do you want reverb ? Tremolo ?
Any preferences between tweed, brownface, and blackface ?

If you don't narrow it down, people will just post their favorites with no explanation.
