any suggestions? just looking for something bare bones...wattage isnt an issue.
As in preamp gain/nu-metal stuff or just high rock gain? My Paul Ruby built Trainwreck clone is a killer rock amp that goes from near clean to very heavy classic rock type gain with the volume knob.
Divided by 13 JJN50/100 or Divided by 13 LDW 17/39
both sound insanely good!
Laney GH100TI (Iommi)
Six knobs, goes all the way from high gain, to really high gain.
I noticed you are in Canada. You should contact James Peters.
As much as I appreciate the thought, I don't make single channel amps.
i was thinking more preamp gain metal type sound..oh i was also looking for it in head form...sorry i should be a bit more specific ahaha...thanx for all the replies so far...keep the suggestions comming. im off to check out the divided by 13 stuff on the net thx
Soldano Avenger. Sounds like that might be a good amp to look at. The Scarborough L&Mcd's has 2 of the 50 watters. I was there checking out some LP's. Anyways, they've got one used and one new. Great preamp gain amp. Definetly worth a look. If you try one out, just put all knobs at 5 (noon) except maybe the master LOL and go from there. Cheers!
ps. yes I've got one myself. A5 #19 A keeper for me that's for sure.
Mako Amplification Dorado. Uber Gain.
Or you could do what the Gothenberg guys did and just throw two OD pedals in front of a distorting amp. Mucho Gain.
Depending on what genre of metal you are looking to do, some options are:
Divided by 13 JJN 50/100
Divided by 13 LDW 17/39
Do a search on this board for ANY of these amps and you'll get a wealth of information.
verry good amps^^^^^^^ the /13's being my favorite. Any of those would get you where you need to be
wow....thats a great list of amps....looks like im gonna have me a night of staying up late doing some reasearch on the amps...so far im really excited to try out the soldano..i have tried an SLO before and i did like it...im sure ill come up with something from this list of amplifiers...thanx again everybody for the help youve all been wonderful!
What does bare bones mean? If you just want one channel, then Cornford MK50H is not a bad idea. It's not exactly bare bones though.
Also, mine was decent but not that impressive using a transformer when I got it, but after it got converted to US power by Matt Wells, it's way better. He did a rebias and a couple other very minor things that went along with the power supply change. But that amp is really good now.
I found a gem recently when I picked up a used Soldano Hotrod 50. Very economical in the used market, 50 watts of very usable high gain tone.:AOK
+1 on the Soldano suggestions.
How about a JMP Marshall?
VHT Deliverance for sure...
The best I've heard are the Reeves Custom 18 and the Explexador. The Emplexador was smoother and the Reeves was like an angry pitbull. Both had plenty of attitude.
